1. It would be poor policy for a president to lower himself to taking on fox news. That's the "real"
media's job. We should be pushing them to do it, not the president.

5. I agree with the sentiment, but it's still not a good position, imo, for a pres to lower himself to
likes of fox noise.

7. they ACTIVELY seek to undermine the president
through LIES AND MANIPULATION - they are a POLITICAL OPPONENT - he would not be LOWERING HIMSELF by FIGHTING BACK

6. He's not the media, and he shouldn't get pulled into a pissing match directly against fn, however
he could certainly make comments directly related to the issues fn lies about without getting in a direct pissing contest with them. To be direct as you desire would lower him and raise them, not a good choice.

15. He has the bully pulpit. Now would be a good time to use it.
I want my president to be as angry about this as we are.

He should shine a light on their bullshit. They directly caused this, which I shutter to think what could have happened to race relations, if this had been allowed to continue. They do nothing but lie and manipulate viewers with hypnotic tabloid like bullshit.

12. The times they are a changin'.
Actually, they've already changed. The media these days is a joke. They hate to research a story because that costs money, so they fill their channels with constant opinions and commentaries and pretend that's news.

The only way now to get a decent story is to give it to the media, to guide those opinions and that commentary, and Obama is in a good position with this story to do it. He's the one who can do it, he's the one with the pulpit that can rival their corporate owners. He won't change anything by watching them work this story around to a defense of themselves and a condemnation of him and his staff. He needs to take control and go after the libelous story that created this mess. The media won't set their own standards, so he can use his pulpit to do it for them.

I remember when it was considered poor decorum for a president to go on MTV or a daily talk show, because only the "real" media should have such access to the president. Clinton broke the rule when he couldn't get a fair shake from the media. He went on MTV and a couple of daily shows and gave his message straight to the people, and that turned around his campaign. The media followed. That's leadership worthy of a president. Obama is a master spokesperson, he can not only use this to his advantage, but he can rally the American people to demand a more responsible media, too.

Not to mention, Teddy Roosevelt did some of that, in the era of yellow journalism and a media that conned the nation into a war. So there is presidential precedent. :)

14. No, Sir, He Should Directly Label them Liars
That should be the common usage at White House news briefings, and when representatives of that organzation are called on the briefing room, the formula should be "Yes, a question now from the liars at Fox News"....

21. They should use this, the editing of ACORN video, the editing of Vietnam testimony
by Swifts...the RW machine regularly uses editing as a political tactic to smear Democrats.
