http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/eyeon2010/2010/07/obama-to-... President Barack Obama will head to Chicago on Aug. 5 for a fundraiser for Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, the Democrat's campaign announced on Sunday.
Giannoulias, the Illinois state treasurer, is vying to win Obama's old Senate seat in November against Rep. Mark Steven Kirk (R).
"We're excited to welcome President Obama back to Illinois to campaign with Alexi in early August," Giannoulias campaign manager Michael Rendina said in a statement. "The President's visit will reinforce the importance of the clear choice Illinois voters face between Alexi, who supports helping the president move America forward and career Congressman Mark Kirk, who wants to go back to the same failed Bush policies that got us into this mess."
The announcement about the Obama fundraiser comes on the heels of second quarter fundraising reports that showed Giannouliass trailing badly on the financial front in the race. He raised $900,000 from April through June compared to Kirk's $2.3 million.
