What I hated about George Bush
I hated his ideological rigidity, even in the face of facts on the ground
I hated that he refused to compromise with the other side or even consider what they had to say;
I hated that he disregarded the constitution to further his ideological principles
I hated that his white house put political considerations above policy considerations
I hated that he exploited 9/11 to further his ideological goals

I'm glad President Obama is nothing like the previous resident

12. I look at that picture and I imagine the soldiers thinking
"Yeah I am over here taking your place because you got out of doing your duty"

4. the most annoying thing about bush
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 08:01 AM by griffi94
was his supporters. the ones who kept parroting the same talking points over and over
even as it became evident that the talking points were wrong.

and the way they constantly made excuses for his miscues and blamed all of his mistakes on clintn even after he had been in office a couple of years.

the almost religious way they admired him. they could tell he was a good man the kind they wanted to have a beer with.

bushbots i believed they were called

5. The Bushbots also loved that he violated laws and neglected duties
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 08:04 AM by NJmaverick
to push their agenda through. They loved how he attacked and ignored the other side. They loved that their President would do anything, no matter how vile, to push their agenda for them. They considered their President like he was some sort of attack dog to turn on their enemies.

6. are you sure they loved
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 08:13 AM by griffi94
that he violated laws and neglected duties...or did they just love him and so the made excuses for him doing those things.

i know he broke laws. torture was ok, illegal wiretapping was ok, habeos corpus suspended was ok,
guantanamo was ok.

and i know his supporters not only forgave his mistakes but made exuses for them and got mad at other people for pointing them out.

aren't we lucky to not have that kind of political environment anymore

9. Oh they were definately from the ends justifying the means crowd
they believed their cause was right and just so nothing should stand in their way. Had nothing to do with their affections for the lovable loser (who didn't inspire much in the way of love or respect (just likable).

7. In their eyes he was a man's man
It didn't matter that he was wrong or right. His bullheaded stomp through the china shop was what they admired the most. He took that cowboy image and ran as far right as he could with it. Rove was brilliant.

he charged headlong right or wrong with little more than ideology to guide him (thought need not apply)

10. This was about general ethical considerations, not specific policy
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 08:19 AM by NJmaverick
it was about how he conducted himself as President and how I want a person to conduct themselves. Policy changes over time, but ethics and morals stand the test of time.

13. it is easier
to not get worked up over bad policy if the presidents conduct is less embarrassing.

i'd almost bet that a lot of the bush policies wouldn't have been nearly as objectionable had he seemed more reasonable and less "yee haw i'm a cowboy" in nature.

i wonder if suspending habeos corpus, illegal wiretapping, continuing an illegal war and all that other stuff bush did would have been more acceptable had he been calmer and willing to admit he was capable of making mistakes, and articulate.

14. If he had conducted himself in an ethical manner most of those things
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 08:34 AM by NJmaverick
in all likely hood, would have never happened. When you carry yourself in a proper and ethical manner one tends to do the right thing.

28. I hated all the things mentioned above, but also, I just hated his stupid smirking face.
I despised him for intellectual reasons, but also at a primal gut level. Every time I saw him, I had an overpowering urge to just smack his dumbass mug.
