I've been away from DU for a long time and I've just recently popped in, and this site has become more of a right wing site than anything else.

Any republican would be conformable here and I'm sure many are. It's really hard to find any post at all that are positively for Obama.

I just can't even believe this is the same DU.

172. It is a shock, isn't it?
The word disgusting comes to mind, too.

It's been so bad for so long that some of us decided we need a "safe place" to talk about Obama -- to praise without being mocked, and to question without inspiring a flame war of attacks on Obama. The Barack Obama Group (aka The BOG) at DU is trying to fulfill that function.

As for the rest, it is as you see it. x(

I've been away for so long because I was a little burnt out after the long election, but I never expected to come back to this.

Although this user name I have now is relatively new, I've been a user since some time around 2001, but lost my old e-mail account and couldn't remember my old password and my old DU user name when I went from dial up(Dial up?I know:))to DSL.

Anyway, you are 100% right. The election season on DU sure will be interesting.:)

the threads on which they seem to be debating whether he's a naive dummy who hasn't figured out that Republicans aren't really his friend or if he's just an evil corporatist enabler.

I think he's doing damned well considering all the shit piled at his doorstep, a gazillion armchair quarterbacks second-guessing his every move, and a pack of MSM toadies doing their corporate masters' bidding asking some really stupid crap whenever they get a chance.

And now I'm so damn sick of both I can barely see straight.

He's a corporatist who only loves the corporations (I'm assuming that's what that idiotic, over used word means) but when he goes after the corporations it's just a "sham" to distract from the fact that he loves them. *sigh* :wtf:

where the DLC gets blamed for everything from dry rot to the downfall of Western civilization.

No one outside DU seems to have even heard of them. Sure, the so-called "Third Way" school of thought is cursed (and in some cases rightly so), but I never, ever, EVER hear the DLC's name mentioned.

There were some people who wielded some political power years ago who were affiliated with the DLC--and many Dems were connected to it at one point or another--but it's irrelevant now. Its time has come and gone.

I've corrected people with facts and sourced links, and all they can respond with is, "You're just a DLC tool," "The DLC pays well," "You're a DLC apologist," etc. It was funny at first, but now it's just pathetic -- and ironic, considering they always accuse us of staying "on message."

10. Obama Team Turns on Engines in Repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steve-clemons/obama-team-turns-on-engin_b_600127.html

Recently I had the opportunity to connect with some national security wonks and Obama team members in the White House Roosevelt Room. I was invited to meet some "senior administration officials" regarding the contours of the recently released "National Security Strategy" by the President.

While there I chatted with someone not to be named about whether the White House was caught off guard by Defense Secretary Robert Gates stating that he did not want to see legislation on Don't Ask Don't Tell until after the completion of an internal military review.

The short answer was "yes." Gates was cornering the President on Don't Ask Don't Tell.

But then to their credit, Senators Carl Levin and Joseph Lieberman as well as House Member Patrick Murphy refused to allow the Pentagon to drag its heals on the biggest civil rights agenda item of the day -- and pushed through legislation building in a repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell pending the military review.

under the limitation of having to satisfy everyone who wants their cake,
and wants to eat it too; Folks wanting the drilling to continue, while they holler
that the oil spill is hurting their "way of life" and pointing their damn finger
at everyone but themselves.

Add to them those who don't believe Americans or anything in America should ever suffer
based on the collective asshole decisions that we consistently (as a nation)make.

Stuff like folks hollering that Obama should be pulling a job out of his ass for everyone,
and if he isn't, he has failed. But when he does literally pulls jobs out of his ass,
then these are government jobs (government being the biggest hire of unions
in America) we say with our nose held high,
so then folks then complaints that those are not the "right" types of jobs.

Under that banner of crazyassness (where everyone wants every fucking thing Now no matter what
and if they don't get it, it's someone else's fault, then they'll talk a lot of shit),
he has to navigate to try and satisfy some of the people some of the time,
while attempting to solve institutionalized problems (that have been of our making
last 30 years if not longer) under impossibly difficult political circumstances; i.e.,
a fucked up corporate "run the country into a ditch" media,
racist ass MF who are looking for nothing more than a good 'ol linching,
over 1/2 of the country still pissed at Bush and reacting to Obama accordingly,
total full blown political cynicism, and of course,
that bunch of folks who contradict their own common sense for the sake of being "mad"
because although they intellectually realize that the media in this country wouldn't ever allow us to elect a full blown socialist, same folks still expect the President to act like a full blown socialist every fucking step of the way (so when he doesn't they can be disappointed).

In short, he's great at continuing on no matter how many out there seriously believe
themselves way smarter than this President, although the reality is that they have not one
friggin' clue if they could actually get any of the shit done they are telling him to do, if they were in his place.

For that, I hope he lasts only one term, and then give the "Rule" back to the White Boys....
cause that's who knows how to simply fuck it up real good, steal everything in sight,
and won't even bother to pretend to give a shit. Those are the "tough" MF that we need in charge
again, cause in fact, that is not much more than what we truly deserve,
cause we are sooo fucking brilliant and shit.

Obama had so much to deal with right out of the gate. Stepped into the whitehouse to a pile of trouble and mess that fucking chimp left behind.

one thing after another - HUGE problems.

I can't imagine any other candidate in the running being able to handle these catatrophies as well as he has. It would have broken anyone else.

You can always hide threads you don't like. I use that function regularly. One thing I do consistently is hide any threads relating to Palin. Any thread that mentions her name or anything to do with her gets shitcanned immediately! The same goes for Rush Limbaugh. As soon as I see that name, down the toilet she goes!

This is a Democratic board. We have a Democratic president. Of course you're going to run into threads praising the guy. If you find them tedious, don't worry about it--just hit that little X and off they go! ;-)

87. Perhaps people just don't agree with your perspective or conviction
Ever think of that?

Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean their support isn't rooted in conviction. Their convictions might just be different from yours. Maybe they have more information or different experiences than yours. Maybe they aren't willing to buy every negative story the media--left or right--prints about Obama. Maybe they are more realistic.

Edited on Sun Jun-06-10 11:56 AM by freddie mertz
I personally think it is very generous (perhaps to a fault) that the DU admin provides a protected place for you to complain about the way they run the board.

That alone should persuade you that, far from being the "persecuted minority" that you imagine yourself to be, the owners have gone out of their way to provide for you.

But I'm sure you will not be content until every trace of what you describe as "spam" is eliminated from every other forum here.

I hope you never succeed, because Echo chambers are very boring, useless places.

110. I don't think pointing out individual instances is allowed by the rules.
And I do believe there is a wide range of opinion here regarding the president and his policies.

Some members of his hard-core follower's group (and there definitely IS a definable group) are willing, on rare occasion, to post a criticism or two now and then.

Others are much more zealous and absolutist in their vehement and unquestioning support, not to mention open and sustained hostility to any criticism.

I know that for me personally, my own responses on this forum have been impacted by the unrelenting attacks leveled by some members of this group.

In "real life," I take a much more measured view of things.

Looking through this "positive" thread, several people have whined about so-called censorship, and a simple perusal of GD will prove my point about the number of anti-Obama threads. I'm not going to link to each one because that would take too long. Besides, you can check it out for yourself quite easily.

142. Your thinking here is just paranoid.
The DU owners gave you your own protected forum, which you use to diss them constantly for allowing diversity of opinion on the rest of it.

I have read the hissy-fits in there, just enough to recognize that when you define the "mission" of others to "make this an anti-obama site," you are projecting massively.

The folks who truly want to "remake" this site in their own image are not to be found among the rank and file out here.

We all know how to find them.

113. Yes! Per my posting in GD pres @
his Carnegie Mellon speech. It totally reminded me of why he inspired and continues to inspire me so much. I believe he is genuine. I believe he is "for" us "ordinary Americans." I have no doubt. I wish he were bolder, but I think I understand the constraints upon him. He is getting a totally rotten deal and terrible treatment. I did like Frank Rich's op-ed today. He had a quote in there by Obama, "it's our turn in the barrel" (meaning, taking crap). I just hope he knows we are out here.

Does he know we are out here? How can we make sure he knows? (Best way...I know there are ways...)

This ship is a frucking huge as one to turn around and this man is doing it in shark infested waters. I got his back -- Today tomorrow and all the way till 2012.

I am a Democrat. I am proud of that and I am MORE than happy to know that THIS man is the leader of our country.

124. Here is the thing...
It seems like people truly and honestly -- and in some cases -- innocently, forget how bad a shape this country was left in after that last person who sat in the oval office when he wasn't on vacation.

WE HAVE A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT IN OFFICE!!!

can we PLEASE remember that?

-- and he's a DAMN good one at that.

157. I believe a really good job to have right now would be to be working on
a biography of Barack Obama.

It would be read by our grandchildren's children's children's and on many continents.

History matters. High school kids don't like it. It's not much in evidence on the cable news networks.

But it matters just the same.

Barack Obama is one of its most vivid figures.

166. I support President Obama
I totally support this man who has a cool, calm, civil demeanor. President Obama is an intelligent, articulate, thoughtful man. He has worked hard to raise the level of discourse in this country. He is fighting an uphill battle. He was handed a country that had been raped and pillaged by the Bush Administration and previous administrations and he has tried valiantly to change the course of our ship of state with a crew that fights him every step of the way. I admire him because he will not lower his standards of civility to get the job done. He will not stoop to the level of his opponents who use lies and ad homonym attacks to thwart his agenda.

During the Bush years, I was terrified of my government. I am 62 years old, and I was brought up in a politically active family. I knew all about politics and how things really worked. For the first time in my life, when Bush was president, I was afraid; because my civil rights as a citizen were being stripped away. The righties are using these same tactics to make people afraid of our current government, and their followers believe them. I am no longer afraid, because we have an adult in the White House. We used to have terrorists running our government. They were called, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.

I like President Obama because I feel safe again. He is a man who believes in diplomacy, not war. He is a man who thinks before he acts. He is a man who seems to care about people.

I do not understand why so many people on this forum feel they need to constantly bash the president. Perhaps it is like Will Rogers said, "I don't belong to an organized political party; I'm a democrat".

I have always said, "I want the President of the United States to be at least as smart as I am". I have a PhD. I said this often during the Bush administration. Back then I was a PhD candidate. Anyway, now, I believe my wish has come true.

Yes, I really do like the president. :fistbump:

... that were Bush-Cheney's legacy to Obama, he's doing all that's humanly possible to turn this country around.

I never expected Barack Obama to walk on water, but damn! that man sure can swim fast.

And then there's his demeanor during crises:

And he does.
