Let's Boycott Programs Like Hardball
Okay, the media wants to help Jim DeMint realize his fantasy of Obama's Waterloo. And given that Obama denied them that with health care, they are going to make sure this time it sticks with the oil spill.
Pundits like Tweety, who I read here went into full pout mode over Obama not standing on the beach with a bullhorn in a flightsuit to give him a thrill like Bush did. that Obama is doing what real presidents do and not movie ones seems to tick off the beltway idiots like Maureen Dowd.
As I write, Andrea Mitchell was all upset because Obama dared to multitask and go to Penn. rather then camp on the beaches of Nola.
How dare he not spend 24-7 doing everything to stop the leak, like obama is some engineering expert and can just dive a mile below the surface and McGiver it.
I am tired of the phoney populism, the grandstanding and the pundits tell us, the American people, what we want.
I say let's boycott programs that are doing this instead of responsible reporting.

Imagine if alot of us started to boycott and see the ratings dive.

And if we decide to do this we need to enlist the help of other blogs so it really hurts.

We need to be pro-active and fight back.

I'll watch Ed, then switch to BBC America. I won't waste any time listening to Tweety.

13. Matthews supported Obama throughout the campaign. I saw him at the
Inauguration. He was there with his wife.

A panel on Matthews show - in March '07 predicted that Obama would overtake Clinton by June '07.

Matthews also likes McCain, that is true.

I have no doubt Obama would have still won without his panel and thrill up his leg. Oh by the way your Celtics are going down starting tomorrow.

5. Not just MSNBC programs but, CNN like anderson cooper.
We need to make a statement.
the rightwing gets their way by pushing the media and others. We will be ignored. Our side will be trashed and belittled until we, the ground troops, fight back and push back
Make some noise of our own and stop ceding ground to the rightwing all the time because we don't want to be bothered.

Edited on Wed Jun-02-10 12:30 PM by sketchy
And hysterical media making a two day story (at least) of the Al and Tipper Gore breakup is just a real live demonstration of what Al's book Assault On Reason was talking about!

I would LOVE to see Al Gore himself call them on their BS. Not to mention I've seen more than one total misrepresentation of what happened in the presidential election of 2000 while they're breathlessly gossiping about the Gore separation.

7. I get pissed at "Tweety" every other day....
so what I do is just change the channel. Every once in a while he "gets it right"! I appreciate your concern, but we have too few unbiased news programs as it stands. We don't need to boycott one of them because we disagree with them sometimes. I wish they would replace him with someone less dramatically INVOLVED in politics, and just report the news with less color commentary. Save Chris for election night reports only, and give someone thoughtful his show !! A hybrid of Keith and Rachel would be GREAT!!!

I laugh when shows like Bill O'Reilly and Beck are tossed around for their perceived high ratings.

Do you know Beck averages about 3 million viewers a show? We're a country of 300,000,000 people!

Small potatoes!

16. All cable news is watched by such a small %.American Idol gets like 50 million viewers.
I don't think it is that people are uninterested in the news, either. We all get it from the net, why bother watching it force fed to us?

27. It's past its prime, imo
Plus, the contestants weren't really that good this year. I didn't watch much, work nights, not home much, but I didn't think any of the contestants were really that good, even the two that made the final.

9. Yeah, good luck with that.....
I agree 100%. Completely.

And if everyone on DU stopped watching these stupid shows on cable news channels, they'd tank even worse in the ratings than they are now.

But it won't happen because this place in particular is filled with people who have some ridiculous "Look at me! Look at me!!!" desire to feel needed and act as though they are doing some sort of patriotic civic duty by watching that stuff and posting about it on message boards. Trot out the old excuses "I like to know what the enemy is doing/sayin!!!". Or even better "They have good interviews!!!"

It's a losing battle to try and fight it.

28. Sad but true. We are treated to daily updates of Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, etc.
Sometimes I think Glenn Beck has his own set of interns posting crap on liberal sites just to get a reaction. Not to mention that there are cottage industries that sprang up just to keep an eye on Fox News, and it's how a lot of liberals make their living. <Sigh>

33. +1 Me too, and sometimes I'm so depressed about this oil mess that I
don't even tune in.

I like Rachel best, and hate to miss her, so I have my DVR record it every night, just in case she has something really great.

But between 8 and 10 in my area, more likely I'm watching MSNBC or I'm not watching TV at all, (well, maybe some PBS Nova here and there).

act tough but never served) I am done with him.I will only turn on Ed,Countdown, and rachel.I hope Tweety Is keep away from covering
Democratic Primary nights like tuesday when halter will probally retire Lincoln If we are lucky.CNN Is just Fox News Lite.

Keith can't even announce his top stories at the beginning of the show without sarcastic bloviating. And what's with that snorting thing he does when trying to make a point? He's become really annoying.

38. It's friggin Tweety, who cares. Still, even Tweety has enough sense to get
that if you let BP do their thing that they will make business decisions that aren't good for the general welfare, as they prove daily.

No question the corporate media spin is silly but that works in Obama's favor too. If they asked any questions of value and weren't fighting for the status quo then a different but no more winning picture would emerge.

Prior to being President that needed an environmental disaster to sway people to use clean energy. Does anyone here think that would slide by like PNAC. Where the fuck where these "hounds" after 9/11?
