A question about the media critics of the President's response:
When is the media going to demand a criminal investigation of BP?

When are they going to gather the information and present in-depth analyses, commentary and reports to spotlight BP's negligence?

It would be great if they spent an equal amount of energy and resources do this as they do criticizing the President.

7. Well it's not just about access, and who has money for access to the press...
Edited on Tue May-25-10 08:42 PM by Writer
it's also about what those with access do with the press. The press always ALWAYS have been in the private sphere - privately owned, and privately controlled. We keep thinking there was a golden time for the press when they were "doing their jobs," and perhaps the middle of the 20th Century following progressive reforms and the professionalization of the press was such a time, but otherwise the press have always been at the behest of the selfish interests of those who control them - whether they be individuals, families, small companies, or corporations.

2. BP is a big corporation just like their bosses
their bosses don't want the light turned to harshly on big corporations.

5. Obama needs to lead & constantly demand the criminal investigation, not the RW media.
Apparently it's not the job of Republican owned media corporations to say what Obama needs to be saying & acting on - go figure.

10. With all due respect...
...who gives a flying fuck what the media 'demands'? Obama could order Holder to start a criminal investigation tomorrow, no? Hell, Holder could do it on his own. Blaming the media for Obama not being willing to do the right thing is off base.

12. "who gives a flying fuck what the media 'demands'? "
Evidently, the people who cheer the media's demands.

And if I want to call the media out for being biased assholes, I will do so.

"Blaming the media for Obama not being willing to do the right thing is off base."

Off base?

With all due respect, that's nonsense.

13. I want BP execs dragged into court and strung up
They've just committed an incredible crime against humanity. Obama doesn't have to wait for the media to demand it to make that happen. He can demand it himself right now.

14. "He can demand it himself right now."
What does that have to do with the media demanding it? What does that have to do with the media doing investigative work?

The administration is going to investigate. The Congress is going to hold hearings. Are you suggesting that journalists (a real objective media) have no role in accountability? Then why is everyone annoyed that journalists are being turned away by BP?

Your comment is simplistic and irrelevant to my point.

15. "Are you suggesting that journalists (a real objective media) have no role in accountability?"
Of course not, but you already knew that. I'm suggesting Obama doesn't have to wait for the media slugs to get properly motivated in order to go after BP. He can do it right now.

11. I've never known media critics to be journalists.
This is like asking why a zombie film does not have a soaring aria for the female lead.

You know, the ones who would be ultimately responsible for any criminal investigation?

If I suggest the media demand an investigation, who exactly do you think the demands would be aimed at?

19. If they'd spent more time criticizing this president's administration
and doing forthright investigative journalism into the goings on at the Department of Interior- asking: are our regulations sufficient to prevent a Montara type spill occur in the Gulf of Mexico?

...we might not be in this situation.

When will you admit that Obama's response could have a greater effect than it has?
