Remember when Romney said his dad marched with MLK?
And it was proven false? So he backtracked and suggested he meant his father was there in spirit?

He lied. He knew he was lying. The media knew he was lying. Yet outside of a small dustup that lasted maybe a half-week, everyone moved on. It wasn't an issue a week later. Let alone a month later. It won't be an issue if Romney runs for president in 2012.

Yet Blumenthal makes a flub a couple years ago, and it's going to haunt him for a long, long time.

I am not condoning his flub. It was stupid. When you're a politician, you're not afforded many Get Out of Jail Free cards. You've got to be careful what you say and how you say it. That's the risk of being a candidate for office.

However, if we're going to attack people for their embellishments, let's be consistent.

Unfortunately, the media has no interest in being consistent.

If they had, Romney would've been crucified (whether it was justified or not) for his comments in 2007.

1. The talking heads, aided and abetted by the media, do a lot of picking and choosing about what
Edited on Sun May-23-10 03:11 PM by BrklynLiberal
lies and misrepresentations they will go on and on and on about....

Remember all the lies and misrepresentations that were publicized about Bush's life? Funny, neither do I.

In fact, I recall several "accidental", untimely, yet strangely convenient for the Bushes, deaths..that occurred to a lot of people
who were actually trying to bring out some uncomfortable truths about pres shithead and his family..

2. The media is a problem that most may acknowledge,
but generally try to keep out of the equation.
It's easier to make conclusions and judgements that way,
that doesn't allow us to realize how powerless compared to the media,
we truly are.

3. One of the GOP Senate candidates here in CA lied about being shot at in Lebanon
And this was pointed out just this week. We didn't hear one word about it. So-called liberal media.

4. This is why we MUST have some sort of Fairness Doctrine.
Something new, updated to reflect the way news is distributed and reported today.

Having a media that is controlled by corporate interests who look out for their own profits first is not acceptable. GE loves military contracts, because they make a ton of money from them. Therefore, war is good for GE. Is it too much of a stretch to think GE's media outlets might be used to make war "more attractive" to the American people?

We need to break that link.

5. I have no clue how with our ideology which is centered on the idea of human failings
and theirs which is centered on we just don't beat people up enough for them to be responsible that our politicans are always expected to be flawless and theirs are allowed to do whatever the fuck they want.

6. Dodging bullets in the baltics....
Remember that one?

I'm thinking the difference is in loss of life, and (perhaps) racism. We didn't lose 50,000 Americans in the civil rights marches, so there were less people personally affected, less people who lost a father, uncle, brother... which equates to less survivors who would be outraged now.
