25. This isn't just their mess. Fish and other animals breed/spawn/are born there

that populate all over the world. The drop in O2 levels affect the whole world. The toxins entering the water table affect the entire nation. This will affect food prices perhaps globally and certainly nationally, EVEN if you don't eat seafood because that supply will have to be substituted for something else that you probably do eat.

Those are just a few things so I really think you are being either myopic or plain stupid about this. We are one nation and one human race. We also have the responsibility of stewardship over our environment and the life within it, especially when a disaster is completely man made.

I live. The government doesn't have the equipment, technology or knowledge to deal with an out of control oil well 1 mile under the sea. Like it or not we have to depend on the oil industry to stop the oil leak and clean up the mess.

Louisiana is part of the United States. It was when the hurricane broke the levees, and they had no place to stay. It is now, when the oil's washing ashore and devastating the fisheries and shrimp beds. Everything is connected together: the ecology of the Gulf of Mexico is connected to the ecology of the wetlands and marshlands of Mississippi and Louisiana, and the ecology of the entire Mississippi river valley - which stretches from the adirondacks to the rocky mountains - is connected to those wetlands and the Mississippi delta. When the oil devastates the plant life, the insects have nothing on which to feed, and so there are fewer birds to eat the insects, and on and on it goes. This spill will cost the nation hundreds of billions, perhaps even trillions, of lost business in the aggregate.

Granted, government does not have the skills to stop the gusher, but it's pretty clear the oil company really doesn't have the skills either. Government does, however, have the skills and equipment to clean up the mess, and it is patently obvious that it would be much better for the country and the planet if BP is not left to their own devices when it comes to the cleanup. The damn dispersant they're using is acutely toxic.

this disaster and whatever comes forth falls on the democrats, specifically the liberals, who do not make the party respect their beliefs, instead leaving us with a 2 party system representing only one side of the issue.

if you were in a position to stop a disaster (the result of bad policy) and you did nothing to stop it but rather further encouraged the error, then you are responsible.....

this goes on all the weak liberals for making themselves ineffectual and the blue dogs, middle ground, centrist pukes like evan bye.


just another aspect of this administrations that is slowly eroding my confidence in any real 'CHANGE'
everything done so far reeks of political expediency and compromise and a slacking of ideals from court appointments to detention center policy to offshore drilling.....

i used to look at elders when i was in my early 20s and wonder how some of them could get so jaded and be unengaged. after about a decade i'm starting to get to that point myself....

rfk said it best when he described the 60s student movement as the culmination of young people realizing they have no impact whatsoever and thus they checked out ie became hippies, drugs, music, counterculture, all reality escape.

the irony is those people grown up are the problem now in their chronic inefficacy. its also ironic that the silent majority these days are on my side of the spectrum while the hippies of our time call themselves tea baggers.
