Poll question: In 8 Years, Will My Son Have The Opportunity To Enlist For Afghanistan
My son just turned 10. If he wants to join the US military in 8 years to fight in Afghanistan, will he have the opportunity?

(The war's already more than 8 years old...)

2. if he ever wants to have kids, he shouldn't join the service
guys that go anywhere near combat zones where depleted uranium are used have a high incidence of kids with birth defects.

4. If he wants to. If he doesn't he won't have to. There won't be a draft.
WTF is up with all these Donald Downer posts.

You supported Obama so this can't be a shock to you.

5. Um, I think that the President said we would be leaving in 18 months
more or less. So let's not get all melodramatic about our sons having to go to Afghanistan in 2017, at least under this administration.

My son turned 18 the day before the invasion of Iraq. He had to sign up for selective service. Believe me, I was terrified and tried to talk him into registering with an asterisk--as a c.o. Despite his strong opposition to the war, he was not so worried for his own condition. And indeed, he went off to college that fall and has continued in his graduate studies, far from the military.

I have to take Obama at his word: the plan is to get out of there as quickly as possible, and hopefully around the 18-month timetable he just proposed.

7. Teach him the Metric System and how to say "eh" a lot
Hockey lessons might help too. Just in case.
