Platts angry over Smeltzer campaign mailing

U.S. Rep. Todd Platts, R-York County, is accusing Republican primary opponent Mike Smeltzer of trying to mislead voters from the 19th district with a recent campaign mailing.

Smeltzer's campaign says the mailing simply calls attention to an issue Republicans should be aware of before they vote in the primary on May 18.

The flier refers to Platts having applied for the job of comptroller general of the United States, a kind of national auditor who heads the Government Accountability Office and oversees Congressional spending. Platts is one of four names on a list from which President Barack Obama will choose the new com ptroller. Obama does not have a deadline for reaching that decision.

Platts has said recently that he does not expect to get the job. He applied in November.
