The amazing hypocrisy of my local school district concerning Obama......
I received a email today from my daughters high school principal. My daughter attends Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park Kansas.

The principals email was talking about how excited the school is to be one of the six finalists of the schools that Obama will pick from to give a commencement speech at graduation this year.

Even though I am really excited for our school because I love Obama, I am very upset that this school district thinks they deserve this honor.

It was just six months ago that this same school district sent a "warning" and a "opt out" message to parents about Obama's "Stay In School" speech.

They made it very clear that parents could remove their kids if needed to stop the kids from having to be subjected to Obama's speech.

In the Middle School some teachers did not even have the speech on the televisions in the room.

How can this school administration think they deserve to have Obama speak at their graduation when six months ago they were making sure to warn parents that they could avoid Obama's school speech?

I honestly think the school that wins should be one that embraced the School speech and did not make an effort to allow kids to avoid listening to it.

The hypocrisy is unbelievable to me.

1. On the other hand, maybe they're growing up and getting edumacationafied.
That tends to happen when you have great role models.

2. They don't deserve it but
for the good of the kids and community, I'd be pleased. And yes, the hypocrisy is outrageous.

3. If they get selected, send 'em a "congratulations" letter that respectfully commends them...
...for finally learning that the President of the U.S. deserves respect, and for not buckling under to hatemongers this time.

8. If you want the school board or school to turn down his visit
write the letter now. Otherwise, if you don't want the school board or school to respond negatively write the letter after the commencement.

5. I'm not from Kansas so I might be wrong
but I thought the state school board mandated that the kids could opt out and parents had to be notified that they could

6. I will research that but.........
It was still very clear that this was a reaction from the local administration. In my conversations with the local administration they never mentioned being forced to send the message because of the state board.

9. If you find out for sure let me know
If you are right and I am incorrect (which is likely) then I think your question is a good one

10. that's what I was thinking... the OP's school was actually
tame compared to the districts surrounding me. they didn't have and opt-out nor an opt-in... they just didn't show it at all. One Superintendent was even quoted in the local paper that the speech would be "inappropriate" for school age children...
