Not doing maintenance on existing refinery infrastructure is also a big problem. Too many blast and fires to be normal.

1. There have been no refineries built in the United States in the last 25 or 30 years

they are all getting old.

To top it off, the oil companies keep a number of exiting refineries closed so they can keep prices inflated..

Its a very sticky situation to say the least.

And I agree, we have old plants that need maintenance.

2. If peak oil is the concern then the very best thing is to leave ours in the ground

for the coming rainy days and burn up everyone else's because we can't produce enough to make any real difference in the worldwide supply.

Let OPEC and company empty their resources and then when the sky falls we'll have a few years supply to help get over the hump.
