AP source: RFK's grandson weighing US House run
By GLEN JOHNSON

The Associated Press
Saturday, February 27, 2010; 6:11 PM

BOSTON -- A top Massachusetts Democrat said Saturday that one of Robert F. Kennedy's grandsons is considering carrying on the family's vaunted political tradition by running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Joseph P. Kennedy III, one of the twin sons of former Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, may run this fall if Democratic Rep. William Delahunt decides against seeking re-election in his South Shore and Cape Cod district.

Kennedy, 29, "has been considering it but he hasn't made a decision," said the Democrat, who demanded anonymity to speak about private conversations with the father and son.

The younger Kennedy did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School who works as a prosecutor in Barnstable County, near his family's Cape Cod compound.

7. Young Joe Kennedy set to run for congress
It looks increasingly likely that Joe Kennedy 111, son of former Congressman Joe Kennedy, will be running for the House seat now held by Congressman Bill Delahunt this fall.

The Boston Globe are quoting sources close to Kennedy as saying he will almost definitely make the run and that they expect Delahunt to announce he is stepping down.

The report says Delahunt wanted to step aside two years ago but Ted Kennedy persuaded him to stay on.

Kennedy is currently an assistant district attorney in Barnstable County and Harvard Law School graduate as well as a former Peace Corps volunteer. He would start as strong favorite if Delahunt steps aside.

He has been very active in state Democratic circles since first coming on the scene in 2006 when he and his twin brother, Matt, co-chaired Edward Kennedy’s last Senate campaign. At times, he has been with Delahunt at 10th district events fueling rumors that he was interested in running.

Democratic political consultant Michael O'Shea says Kennedy will be the natural front runner.

"Any time a Kennedy gets into a race everybody better think twice," he told the Boston Globe
"You are running against history, against a legacy, while at the same time you are trying to tell people who you are. The Kennedy name has immediate cachet with Democrats."

12. Couldn't run for Ted's Senate seat - not old enough.
Must be 30 when sworn in and seated, He can run against Scott Brown in 2012.
