Am I rarity in progressive circles? I like Rahm Emanuel, James Carville, Howard Dean & Cynk Uygur
Or am I supposed to hate some of these guys to show I like some of the other guys to prove my progressive bona fides?

Rahm and James knew how to dance with the sleight of hand some will find amusing if only to make them forget their pitiful fates for a fleeting moment.

So, yeah, you can like them...

8. I'm with you on 3 of 4
I don't like Emanuel

Carville is one of the few who is willing to go after Republicans in the same manner they go after Democrats. He's one of the few that will play as dirty as they do

My favorite Carville moment was with Santorum about six years ago when he said "That's not true and you know it! You sit there and lie, not distort, lie about what you're doing..."

Dean goes after them with facts

And Cenk does a great job of explaining the broader implications of issues

34. Do you remember when Carville went after Dean with the same venom?
I do. It was the day after the 2006 midterms and Carville made the rounds of every news show for the sole purpose of beating the shit out of Dean for being such a bad DNC Chairman.

No, I do not like Carville. Just the opposite. He is a double-dealing snake in the grass.

38. Maybe true
But we do need more people who go after Republicans hard and we just don't seem to have anyone else that pushes like he does

He was wrong about Dean, as was Begalia.

But when he's out there defending Obama (and he does) he doesn't allow himself to get in the "Yes, but..." which too many Dems on TV do.

Carville doesn't do, "Yes I think the President is handling it wrong, but..."
With Carville you get, "Oh, come on now. We've seen what damage the Republicans do. The last people that should make any criticisms of the President are the people who made this mess."

I'll take Carville over the vast majority of people out there any day.

9. Carville, not so much....
he kind of wore me out about 10 years ago.

Rahm, I don't really care so much about to invest my emotions into him....so I don't have "personal" feelings for him, although his "strategy" thus far ain't been too hot. His voting record was quite progressive, but he's supposed to be this evil monster, or so I'm told (ordered). I'm neutral on the guy.

Howard Dean I like, even when I don't agree with him, which has happened.

Cynk's not in the same class as the others at all. He hasn't accomplished anything remotely of any real value to date that would make me have an opinion about him that would call for my loyalty. he's an opinions guy, and as with most of those, I agree with some of his opinions, and not with others, when I bother to find out what those are. What he hasn't done is ran or won or served at any level for public office, advised anyone who has, or done anything of note beyond having a youtube Internet show; one that's just a guy sitting at a desk with a camera in front of him stating what he thinks. I think stuff too, and so I'm not that impressed. Rachel Maddow has more pull with me than he will ever have.

42. What has Cenk accomplished in politics?
Edited on Mon Feb-22-10 10:49 PM by FrenchieCat
that would warrant him being compared to the likes of Howard Dean, a multi times elected Governor and a Presidential Candidate; Carville, who helped Bill Clinton win two terms and Rahm who served in the house for 7 years and prior to that also working in the White House?

As far as Rachel; having her on your show doesn't make you comparable to her. Sorry.

PS. Far as Cenk's name, I thought that was his name, but the Op poster wrote his name differently, and I thought maybe that was his real name or something....so pardon me. Hope you lashed the OP as well!

I left a brief comment with a fun play on the misspelling!

And I'm not interested in a pointless "my dad can beat up your dad" debate, it's incredibly unproductive. But since you like Howard Dean, you'll be happy to know he'll be on TYT this Thursday, so I look forward to you tuning in for the interview.

;)

PS---Rachel is awesome, on that we agree.

Maybe Rahm would be entertaining as an out of the loop talking head.

28. Did you know Howard Dean isn't really a progressive
because when he signed the Vermont civil unions bill in 2000, he did it in an insufficiently public ceremony. It's true, I heard it on this very board.

To be a bona fide progressive, it seems like you need to:
1. hate everyone because they are not pure enough,
2. show a complete ignorance of how government works,
3. blame everything on "the corporations",
4. attack anything that is actually accomplished because it was "not good enough" (rather than applauding but wanting more),
5. unwittingly be useful idiots for the republicans in their Obstruct and Cause to Fail strategy designed to humiliate the Democrats.

Edited on Mon Feb-22-10 04:32 PM by LoZoccolo
Because when all people know how to do is complain on the Internet, then the only way they think to get anything from anyone who actually is effective, is to threaten and/or throw them under the bus. It is their only strategy, and basically means that they will eventually throw everyone down there, despite all else that they do for the complainers.

However, amongst the real-life progressive activists and other people who show up, who devise a strategy to give them what they want, who take responsibility for getting things done, who understand the nuance and subtlety of politics, and have the merit badges to prove it, you are the rule rather than the exception! :fistbump:  :toast:
