(R)asmussen Poll shows big bounce for Obama. Presidential Approval Index +10 since Friday.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 33% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -7 (see trends).

This is the first update based entirely upon interviews conducted since the State-of-the-Union Address and it reflects a bounce for the President. The number who Strongly Approve is the highest in more than four months (since September) and the overall Approval Index rating is the best in more than three months (since October).

The bounce comes almost entirely from those in the president’s party. Sixty-four percent (64%) of Democrats now Strongly Approve, up from 50% before the speech. However, the speech appears to have had the opposite impact on unaffiliated voters. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 50% now Strongly Disapprove. That’s up from 42% before the speech. The next few days should give an indication as to whether these changes will fade or if they signify the beginning of a new phase in the political environment.

1. I wouldn't take a Rasmussen Poll seriously. This guy goes on Michael Savage's radio show.
That's all I need for total discreditation.

2. Oh, I know.
He's definitely a Repug pollster (hence, the "(R)" in the subject line), uses a shady polling methodology, and loads his "analysis" like a total hack. So...if he shows a bounce, there probably is one.

14. Not it is 48, from the 27th to the 29th. So Wednesday during the day is still in there.
Rasmussen is up to 50% today, the highest it has been since November.

5. That "index" is very misleading... it exaggerates negative and hides the positive..
Considering the state of the country and controversial things the President is trying to accomplish there are few who would ever "strongly approve". However, no matter what the President does there will always a large percent who "strongly disapprove" -- the birthers, teabaggers, Limbaggers, Palinites, religious conservatives, etc.

The more important number is total approve vs total disapprove which mirrors fairly closely to the Gallup poll.

6. Interestingly, Rasmussen measures something Gallup does not - relative enthusiasm
Gallup shows flat but the Rasmussen Approval Index, a measure of relative enthusiasm not just top-line approve/disapprove, is strong.

An interpretation is that the SOTU moved some weak approvers to strong approvers... a shift of enthusiasm within the Dem leaning group.

Makes sense. A lot of weak approvers are quite sympathetic to Obama and want him to do good things, so things like the SOTU or the Charm City Massacre appeal to them.

15. That is interesting - but telling that it started with Obama

It is an interesting metric, more in the raw numbers than in the net value that is more highly publicized. (The reason I say this is - if you think of the Bush years, the strongly disapprove may be very likely to be basically an increasing number - as once you are willing to say "strongly" disapprove, there may be no turning back.

Its meaning is hard to figure - but, I suspect that if we went back to March 2003 onward and possibly earlier, Bush's net number was likely awful. If the right continues to point to this, it might be interesting to look at the polls that contain the needed break out to compute Bush's score to put it in perspective.

8. All of the negative comments on the thread are true

what is interesting however is what Rasmussen will say when he gets on FOX.

9. Forget the exact numbers on Rasmussen and look at the overall trend.
It bounced up a bit. Now, it will be interesting if Obama can build on the good reaction from the SOTU and the ass kicking against the House Repubs.
