5. And he did with such ease!
They now have reason to fear him. He's smarter than they are and they know it. They went there armed to the teeth, absolutely sure they were going to embarrass and ruin him only to be finessed in such a way that they never knew what hit them. I love stuff like that.

It's a very nice feeling to feel my President is smarter than I am. Bush sure as hell wasn't!

27. Yeah that man that could
give a great speech and debate better than any of the others. Too bad he came with a body without balls and a fearful heart that couldn't stand the strain of governing. So much promise....unfulfilled. One of the sheep given the lead but with no idea how to take command. So now the flock wonders around, lost in their own pasture.

I admit it I was taken in too, not anymore, now Mr. Obama you must prove yourself, not with your speech but with your actions. I'm willing to bet my whole poker bankroll (not a small amount) this presidency is a complete failure when viewed from the progressive point of view.

11. I fully support President Obama
I think the media has been a motherfucker to the president and it's gotten to a lot of his support. The media has never been on our side. Remember what they did to Bill Clinton. They will always go after out guys. I agree that he hasn't fought back hard enough but he finally got the message, I think, when he brought in David Plouffe this past week. I know there are a lot of people here on DU that have given up on Obama, there's a lot here that never supported him. It doesn't matter. He's our guy and we all have to support him or we're going to see the wingnuts take over congress in November. Don't let the media and the rabid dog conservatives split us on Obama like they did on Clinton.

I actually enjoyed it when he said that he had given tax breaks and the repugs wouldn't applaud it. Then he remarked that he "thought that he would get some applause for that". Just a little reminder that they will never have his back and will fight against anything he wants to accomplish. The GOP is more important to them than the citizens they supposedly represent. Damn shame.:headbang:

46. Neither have I. But after seeing him at work, taking on 140 players at once and deflating
their hate bubbles one by one, all the respect I have for him
has been restored and re-evaluated.

His learning curve isn't a curve at all - more like a straight line, going up.
I have tremendous admiration for him as a human being, and I trust that his
character will rule the day. He will fight for what we believe in, but he'll
do it behind the scenes, governed by his genuine instincts and beliefs.

He is who I thought he was, and there's a lot of joy in that fact!

I just re-watched the MSNBC Rachel/Chris/Kieth special.

He came off very human.Very reasonable. And very f'n smart!
I think It was easy for him because he has the truth on his side.
And I believe he knew what he wanted to say and the points he wanted to get across,
And he executed them flawlessly!
The Republicans were stupid to allow the cameras in.

First the State of the Union, then the Town Hall meeting in Florida, and the most incredible display I've ever seen in my life was, of course, the Republican Retreat where it was 140 to 1. One man took on all of them and he came out the victor. What a week! :-)

After a full year of trying to work with Republicans who think NO is the only answer, he can put on his populist shoes, go walking among the people and say to us: "WE can do it, but I need your help." He is fully engaged and trying to help, they are posturing and 'playing politics.' As I recall the slogan was, "Yes, WE can" not, "Now, watch this!" GObama!

seeing how totally well-informed he is, on any topic they could throw at him.
No notes, no panel of advisors standing in back of him, no teleprompter.
Just brains, and dignity, and humor - one guy, putting himself out there
against the raging Rethugs who were trying to bring him down.

And they lost, big-time!

It was a thing of beauty.

69. Welcome to the New United States of America where anyone who does not agree with
everything the Democratic President does or says is considered a whiner or malcontent instead of a citizen who is exercising her/his right and obligation to speak their mind. This characterization of criticism of President Obama as being synonymous with being at Free Republic is bullshit.

People who expect Democrats to walk lock-step with the party leaders regardless of how much they oppose their policies and tactics are endangering our democracy.

70. There is intellectual criticism and then there is
whining. I see a lot of the latter here. Bush had eight years to fuck this country up. However, after one fucking year in office people here are already willing to throw Obama under the bus. He has been called a sellout, Bush III, and a one-termer on this very board.

I never told anybody to shut up. People can spew their hate and pettiness all they want, but I'm free to criticize them for it.

76. Gross generalization, liquid diamond. What you view as hate and pettiness is the anger that
many of us long-time, dedicated, progressive/liberal Democrats feel because our President, who we worked our asses off for, has been ignoring us AND actively allowing his COS to berate us for doing what he asked us to do--to make him do the right thing.
