It's taxes, stupid

Why are the Democrats so afraid to talk taxes? If they want to win over the American people, they need to tackle taxes by
1. Simplify the tax code by eliminating the mortgage and most other deductions
2. Substantially cut taxes for the middle class
3. Restore the JFK tax brackets on the wealthy, i.e., get rid of the stench of Reaganism
4. Implement a progressive tax rate on corporations and capital gains that earmarks those revenues to paying down the deficit. As the deficit drops so can those taxes.
By offering tax cuts to the middle class and earmarking corporate and capital gains taxes to the deficit, they would make our tax system fairer and put the Republicans in an untenable situation.
