RE: Sen. Reid - Barbara Lee, Chairperson of the CBC speaks for me!
Edited on Mon Jan-11-10 03:10 PM by FrenchieCat
"Over the years, I have had an opportunity to work with Majority Leader Reid," Rep. Barbara Lee, chairwoman of the caucus, said in a statement.

"Senator Reid's record provides a stark contrast to actions of Republicans to block legislation that would benefit poor and minority communities."

Lee added that she looked forward to Reid serving as majority leader.

"There are too many issues like the economy, job creation and energy for these regrettable comments to distract us from the work that must be done on behalf of the American people," she said.

Black folks understand this move so well, because it's all been done before.
United we stand; divided we fall!

6. It's amazing that this much controversy in the media
can be mustered from a political gossip book. Man, the Republicans really jumped on this one. You're right, Frenchie--this one's going to backfire.

14. Somebody should do a book
with all the stupid divisive tactics the "media" has used against Dems.

I wouldn't read it..I lived it until I got rid of the "media" in 2002 and then I lived it again via DU.

12. If SHE DOES speak for you I'd like to see you both articulate on this
"Senator Reid's record provides a stark contrast to actions of Republicans to block legislation that would benefit poor and minority communities."

Reid didn't exactly block Clinton's effort to "end Welfare as we know it." He was certainly down with throwing those on Welfare to the wolves of Wal Mart and Target. Not to mention the tax breaks they got for hiring them and paying em dirt wages.

Reid certainly didn't put up much of a fight when he voted for the 2005 Bankruptcy Bill either. Not to mention voting to ban partial birth abortion WITHOUT EXCEPTION for the life of the mother and parental consent for minors crossing state lines for abortions.

When you say she speaks for you are you also saying she speaks for you in agreement with that?

5. As I am not African-American, I cannot presume to speak from that
perspective. I am not necessarily a great admirer of Harry Reid, nor do I believe that his words were well-chosen. But Barbara Lee sums up this latest media and Republican-manufactured controversy in the statement that you posted.

"Senator Reid's record provides a stark contrast to actions of Republicans to block legislation that would benefit poor and minority communities."

Hurrah for Barbara Lee! End of story, IMO.

Actions always speak louder than words. And having Michael (lurid perpetrator, if not actually the creator of the infamous Oreo cookie controversy during the 2002 MD governor's election campaign) Steele, together with other Republicans who have contributed zilch to the prosperity of poor and minority communities, who have savaged ACORN and other organizations that have tried to assist such communities to be better represented in the electorate, and who have been deliberately obstructionist towards any effort that might improve the lot of such communities, never missing a beat to increase support wars that utilize membership from these communities disproportionately says a lot.

No, it's not a "double standard," it's common sense.

9. Unless she crosses Obama for any reason, at least.
Harry is not a racist though, he's just out of date ineptitude. I'm as always against caving to Confederate nonsense but he should be replaced next term for the more traditional reasons of suckitude.
