Another Steele gaffe: Honest Injun!
The big news from Michael Steele's sit-down with Fox host Sean Hannity was Steele's semi-surprising assertion that his party won't take back the House in 2010 because Republicans aren't "ready."

Was it candor, or Steele's idea of political jujitsu, to fool Democrats into "believing" things are better for the party than they seem? I don't think it matters; nobody takes Steele seriously as a political thinker, in or out of the Republican party, except Steele himself. His election was a cynical gambit by the GOP to hide its unpopularity with non-white voters, to ignore the message of the 2008 election: That they have become the Grand Old (White Guy) Party.

Of course, Steele has failed miserably, spending most of his time offending African Americans with increasingly goofy faux ghetto-speak – remember his abortive "What up?" blog? Tuesday he told the Today Show's Meredith Vieira that despite a rocky first year, "brother still here." But black people who cringe at Steele's jive-talkin' may now have some company among American Indians. Asked by Hannity if he believes the Republican Party needs to moderate to win national elections, Steele answered:

"No, no… No, no! But that’s what’s gotten us into trouble, when we walked away from principle. Our platform is one of the best political documents that’s been written in the last 25 years. Honest Injun on that."

Honest Injun! You can't make this stuff up. If you want to have more fun with Michael Steele, Salon Editorial Fellow Christopher Rogers found this great site where you can keep it real with the GOP chair. Have fun!

6. No, he's for real. Republicans ALWAYS pick the least competent black people they can find.
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 12:01 AM by Ian David
Because:

1) Black people are interchangeable to them. All they feel they need to do is say, "Look, we hired a Black Person to do XYZ" and suddenly they're not racist.
2) The less competent the generic Black Person is, the more secure they feel in their own presumed racial superiority.
3) When the idiotic Black Person they hired fails, they can blame it on:
. . . a) The idea that Black People just aren't cut-out for such-and-such a job, whether or not they actually SAY it or not.
. . . b) Democrats "playing the race card" or "attacking him out of racism."
. . . c) Everyone shop-lifts at Target, don't they?
. . . d) He wasn't a REAL Conservative or a REAL Republican, was he (wink wink, he's Black) You know?
4) Look, we tried a Black Person in position already, and he or she failed (See a-d above) so we don't have to try THAT again.

The GOP wanted Steele to fail from the start. THAT was his REAL job.

10. Obviously you are not from Mayrland

Our former Lieutenant Governor is all too fucking real. He's also not above any dirty trick in his or any other book. Things like trying to pass himself off as a democrat during the Senate election and hiring busloads of homeless people in Pa. to come distribute his bullshit, no fraudulent, literature on election day.

13. Is it possible that with Steel supporter FL GOP Chair Jim Greer gone, Steele will not be far behind?
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 09:23 AM by flpoljunkie
Quite possible, I suspect. (Emphasis mine.)

Worst RNC cash flow in a decade

By Aaron Blake - 01/06/10

A 2009 spending spree has left the Republican National Committee (RNC) with its worst election-year cash flow this decade.

The largest GOP party committee has $8.7 million in the bank heading into an election year with 37 governors’ races, a dozen major Senate contests, dozens more in the House and an all-important redistricting cycle on the horizon.

Said one RNC official: “It is very troubling, and the thing is, most people don’t understand this. But it is really troubling.”

The RNC had $22.8 million in cash and no debt when Michael Steele was elected chairman at the end of January, but has since seen its cash on hand drop to less than $9 million at the end of November.

17. Republicans are comedians best friends...I still waiting for someone to discover that Steele is...
actually a white guy in blackface to try to attract minorities to the GOP like SOUL MAN or something since they probably chased out the last of their real black members during Hurricane Katrina.
