Army murder suspect sent on 'OAS mission'
Wednesday, 15 December 2010 06:37 Adriaan Alsema

A Colombian army colonel suspected of having ordered the extrajudicial execution of four civilians is not able to appear before court, because he is in Washington on an Organization of American States (OAS) mission, the army said Tuesday.

Following an article in newspaper El Tiempo that reported on colonel Jose Gabriel Castrillon's absence in two court hearings, the army told the paper that the official "is on a diplomatic mission as an advisor before the OAS" and will be back on July 13, 2011.

Colombia's ambassador to the OAS Luis Alfonso Hoyos admitted he had accredited the colonel on July 14 "for his good performance" to study at the Inter-American Defense School, three months after the Prosecutor General's Office filed criminal charges against the military official.

According to the army, Castrillon's court case does not impede Castrillon from carrying out his job.

The news angered family members of the victims of the extrajudicial killings allegedly carried out by the colonel's men. According to El Tiempo, they sent a letter to President Juan Manuel Santos to request the return of the colonel's, whose trip they consider "an award for forced disappearance."

1. Luis Alfonso Hoyos, Colombia's envoy to the OAS

Close crony of uribito. Convicted of corruption and forbidden to hold any public office in Colombia for life. So alvarito sent him to the OAS.

You will recall Hoyos' ridiculous show at the OAS in which he said Venezuela was sheltering FARC guerrillas, leading Venezuela to break diplomatic relations and put the two countries on the verge of war.

No wonder Castrillon was accredited even though criminal charges had been filed against him in Bogota THREE months before. I smell alvarito's role in this.

Now what do you suppose the OAS will do about it? If anything.

2. THAT guy! Oh, yes. What a toxic waste of skin to jam into a country's bureaucracy.
This is such an underhanded plan. It does seem consistant with EVERYTHING Alvarito has done already, doesn't it?

Luis Alfonso Hoyos

Can't wait to hear OAS' response. Should be a real masterpiece.

3. Well, well, Castrillón is under investigation for "false positives"

None other than El Tiempo is reporting today that Castrillón is being investigated in the murders of four "false positives" in 2004.

The good colonel was to have shown up to testify in a Colombian court this past Dec. 8 and 9. He was a no-show because the army told the prosecutor Castrillón was on a mission at the OAS.

Castrillón, according to the charges against him, signed off on an operation that resulted in the deaths of four young men, later presented as guerrillas.

Odd spin to the story by El Tiempo. Main emphasis is on uribito's OAS ambassador APPOINTING the colonel, while backing into the charges against him.
