Friday, May 16, 2008

LIMA, Peru: Bolivian President Evo Morales is keeping things lively at an alternative gathering to an official summit of Latin American and European leaders.

The president scored a goal Thursday to lead the Bolivian soccer squad to a 2-2 tie against Peru's 1970 World Cup team at the "People's Summit."

The match was convened by social, labor and Indian groups in Peru's capital.

"Evo! Amigo! The people are with you!" the crowd shouted.

Alternative summit participants waved Bolivian flags, danced and played Andean folk music while waiting for the match, which ran until dusk.

The official summit begins Friday in Lima.
