U.N appoints an assassin to investigate assassinations

Ya'all remember the raid by Israeli commandos on the Gaza-bound Turkish ferry Mavi Marmara that left nine people dead and a bunch wounded on the ship.

Well, UN chief Ban Ki-moon has chosen none other than ALVARITO URIBITO to be the vice president of a four-member panel appointed to investigate the Israeli attack.

It smacks of an assassin investigating fellow assassins.

http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2010/08/02-2

-----------
uribito's ambassador to the U.N. Claudia Blum, had this to say today in New York: (Translation mine)

"his designation is a recognition of his leadership and the high credibility of (uribito) on the international scene, of his frankness and honesty -- a demonstration of the evenness and balance and transparency of the president."

"Although the issue is complex, the president has the capacity of contributing to the investigation his ample knowledge and experience on issues such as peace, security and international law, in addition to his impartiality and analytical capacity. With the panel, he also will contribute to the recommendations solicited by the Secretary General to prevent such incidents in the future, and to contribute positively to the relations between Turkey and Israel and to the situation in the Middle East.

1. Afraid to hear who the OTHER 3 are. Unbelievable!

Well, during the Bush years we thought we were in hell. Now it seems we're in the Twilight Zone.

I guess we don't need to guess too much about where Ban Ki-moon is coming from, politically.

Thanks for the jolt!

2. I agree with Rab
As Colombian, I agree absolutely with Rab's post.....Alvaro Uribe is a criminal that as Governor from Antioquia,Colombia, gathered all the hitmen that had been "unemployed" when the drug Cartel of Medellin was gone. Uribe legalized, armed and trained them. . . . .

With the time these groups become in the bloothirsty proUribe narcoparamilitary Groups and they were used to make operations together with the Military Colombian Forces, carrying out terrible massacres with the only reason of stealing the lands to the innocent peasants.......or eliminating annoying witness on their drug business.

Only through the 8 years of Uribe's tenure, in Colombia were killed violently 132,000 people, mostly peasants, union leaders, teachers, small farmers or members of the opposition.....

Perhaps you can't believe this, but those paramilitaries dismembered alive their victims using Black & Decker chainsaws, or they put alive their foes inside crematory ovens. Even the General Attorney in Colombia knows cases of people that the Paramilitaries throw in ponds full of crocodiles and caimans.

Dear reader, it's hard to imagine inside a normal mind, the thrilling cases of human rights violations that Paramilitaries have been carrying out in Colombia, only comparable to those happened in the countries of Africa.

But the worst is this.....READ VERY WELL.......All this terrifying experience with chainsaw, crematory oven, crocodiles, or dismembering alive the people, it happened under the Presidency of ALVARO URIBE VELEZ, very well known for his participation and ties with the Paramilitaries...and with you collaboration, my American friend!!!!!.....Yes....or Didn't you know that Mr Uribe received of the Bush Administration 7 billion dollars in 7 years, money coming from the American Taxpayers? Did you know that a big chunk of those billions, ended in the narcoparamilitary pockets?

Well, this is the same guy that the UN put as investigator leader on the raid made by Israeli commandos on the Gaza-bound Turkish ferry Mavi Marmara......The fox taking care of the chicken farm. Terrible.

3. So glad to see your factual comments, Dreyfus. I have run across information on an Israeli thug
who has deep connections to the Colombian paramilitaries. Yair Klein:
01Jun07

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who Is Israel's Yair Klein and What Was He Doing in Colombia and Sierra Leone?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last weekend, Colombian intelligence agents arrested two Israelis and a Colombian suspected of being part of an arms-smuggling network attempting to deliver more than 50,000 guns to guerrillas.

Colombian officials are investigating whether the detained Israelis are linked to Yair Klein, an Israeli mercenary accused by Colombian authorities of training right-wing paramilitaries and drug-traffickers in the late 1980s and 1990s. And it is this man Yair Klein that we are going to take a close look at today. It's the story of a leading mercenary but also of the governments and shadowy forces he has worked with.

In late April, Yair Klein was released from a Sierra Leone prison where he spent 16 months on charges that he was smuggling arms to rebels from the Revolutionary United Front (RUF).

Klein is a former lieutenant colonel in the Israeli Army. In the 1980s he established a paramilitary mercenary company called Spearhead Ltd. Through this company, Klein began providing arms and training to forces in South America.

In 1989, Klein, along with several other former Israeli officers, was charged by authorities in Colombia of providing paramilitary training and arms to drug lords running international cocaine cartels. He is also accused of training Mafia assassins whose targets have included Colombian politicians. Klein is also suspected of involvement in the explosion of a Colombian airliner in November 1989.

In 1991, Klein was convicted by an Israeli court of illegally exporting military arms and information to a Colombian group. He was fined $13,400. He has denied all charges.

In 1998, Klein was officially indicted in Colombia on charges of training paramilitary units in terror tactics in the late 1980s. He was allegedly one of four Israelis hired by the late drug trafficker Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha, one of the Medellin cartel's most violent bosses.

The evidence against him includes a training video that he used to instruct death squads in Colombia. The main leaders in the infamous Carlos Castano's paramilitary groups were trained by Yair Klein.

Massacres, assassinations of politicians and other terror tactics now used by paramilitaries in Colombia were part of the instruction that Yair Klein gave in his training camps.

Yair Klein

Google translation of article from La Semana:
The original, in Spanish, is here:
http://www.semana.com/wf_ImprimirArticulo.aspx?IdArt=105405

A group of former Israeli military adviser to the high command of the armed forces in intelligence. Will it be achieved with them to capture the FARC leadership ?

In Colombia, when it comes to Israeli military advisers , one name pops to mind of people: Yair Klein , a retired Army lieutenant colonel in Israel in the mid -80s trained the first groups of assassins in the service of drug trafficking. The paramilitaries led to the bloody legacy of the mercenary endure for two decades of massacres , torture and terrorism. After Klein, the issue of Israeli advisers became taboo. Until this week, when Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos confirmed that his office has hired a group of Israelis to advise the Armed Forces. Suspicions were swift . The announcement coincides with exacerbated rumors about the presence of foreign mercenaries in various parts of the country, and after the FARC say that a command of this type would have attacked the camp where they were the 11 deputies of Valle.

Why are Israeli advisers in Colombia? Who are they? What are you doing ? Last year, after being appointed as Minister but before taking office , Santos traveled to Spain to attend a meeting of the Toledo International Centre for Peace. There he met his friend, former Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami , who had an exchange about the main difficulties would find in the Ministry , particularly in the area of intelligence . Ben Ami told you to hire a group of former officers of his own country that advised the Israeli government in this area, and even encouraged some U.S. state governments .

The Israelis traveled to Colombia for the first time last year to see the conflict in a country which until then was totally alien to them . In April this year the contract was signed with the Ministry and began his mission firm . The group is composed of several retired Israeli army , whose head is a general permanently accompanying two colonels , one junior officer and three translators from Argentina, because no one speaks Spanish. Other advisers who travel the country when needed for a conference or a highly specialized training .

The base of operations of this group is the basis of Ptolemais (Nilo , Cundinamarca) , and their interference is at the highest level because they are working on two areas that are critical in the entire defense sector : improving intelligence, and processes command and control. In other words, trying to fix the chaos in these areas. The consultancy has already borne fruit . One of them is the interviews that were made to the demobilized. These were made by staff without special training. Now, they are interrogated with all the techniques the Israelis have proposed to make the most of your information.

They are also proposing mechanisms to shield the information. "We are teaching them to secrecy, to transform information into transactions and to keep everyone in this task in the newspapers want to go , " said one intelligence officials have had them as teachers. " They're kind of psychoanalysts . We ask the questions they are and help us see all the problems we have and we do not see , "said Sergio Jaramillo , vice minister of defense. But as raise much enthusiasm among some military and intelligence agencies in other sectors have raised concerns .

The criticism has not been long in coming . Many wonder why the Minister appealed to a private group , considered a mercenary , and not directly to the government of Israel, or other governments as the U.S. or the UK who already have cooperation with Colombia in intelligence . The official explanation is that the mission of these men is permanent and highly specialized . And he desperately needed to restructure the whole issue of intelligence. "They are the best in the world, "he told Semana a senior officer. However, the government of Israel knows this advice. So as you know in Washington and London. Officially, all accept it, but in many intelligence agencies are uncomfortable because, while the governments of those countries to help Colombia, the cost of their taxes, the government is paying several million dollars to these Israelis. Although the Ministry of Defence refused to give the exact figure of the contract , unofficial sources say that exceed $ 10 million .

The other big question raised by this consultation is the idiosyncrasy of the country's military . Israel has built its entire security apparatus about its survival as a nation. In this logic, has been tolerant of questionable practices and methods . In particular, the Mossad has starred in scandalous cases of covert operations outside its territory, as the poisoning of a member of Hamas in Jordan for 10 years and the killing of several Hamas leaders in Gaza. Although not the Mossad who is giving lessons, but former members of the Army , this was not reassuring. Several reports on Iraq, and in particular the Abu Ghraib prison , highlighted the presence of former Israeli military in interrogations took place there. What I do not mean, of course, that all act the same way. "It would have been better supported by the British, who have a good intelligence system and a better standard in human rights, " Laude said Fernandez , an expert in security.

On the other hand , it is not clear that any foreign contractor , even if private , is a mercenary. In modern warfare , usually with global enemies such as terrorism or drug trafficking , they go more often to groups that provide logistical and technical services , but do not go to the battlefield . Rather than outlaw the practice, one must consider how to exercise control. Because while the foreign consultants who come on official business are subject to international agreements and standards , not so with the private , which makes weak monitoring. In the case of contractors who are in Ptolemais , the Ministry says it does not go away. " They have nothing to do with operations. Everything is pointing to the restructuring of the intelligence, " said the minister Santos told Semana.

The fact that the government itself has talked about Israeli resolve many doubts. And if you help the armed forces to address serious intelligence issues , are welcome . Perhaps they will start losing the shadow of Yair Klein , who did so much damage to the country.

9.  Juddi, your link about Klein is outstanding. He's a psychopath

Nice to see you again, Juddi. Well, I still I'm asking myself what Uribe did to deserve such appointment.....In this new neoliberal world, the good is bad the crooks receive a better treatment than their victims and the U.N appoints an assassin to investigate assassinations.

Dear American friend: Alvaro Uribe is a crook and a criminal; an individual that from his position as Governor and latter as Colombian President, he used his position to send to kill dozens of oppositors, including the massacre known as El Aro, that you can check yourself through Google

11. Dreyfus, the El Aro massacre was insanely brutal, and after he gave his testimony,
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 02:46 PM by Judi Lynn
Francisco Villaba was murdered, even though the people he named claimed they weren't involved. I guess they proved it by hiring someone to kill him.

What the witness said when he testified was the first look I ever had at the way these people have been behaving toward the helpless citizens of Colombia. I will never forget it, not ever.

Former paramilitary El Aro witness, murdered Francisco Villalba

It would be justice when Uribe runs out of power, and out of friends he can hide behind, and out of money so he can't hire them to go out and kill anyone who raises questions about him.

I found this article which mentions a fact others have raised about clothes the military, and the paramilitaries put on the "false positives." It points out that when they find the victims they are wearing clothes which have NO BULLET HOLES covering the bullet holes on the bodies of the murdered Colombians. Small details like that can raise questions, I'm sure!

I have heard about that before.

Found this article in a search for any reference to "El Aro" and Villalba.

I see they also mention the fact many Colombians refer to Juan Manuel Santos as "Chucky." I've heard this before, too.

In Spanish:
http://perspectivainternacional.blogspot.com/2010_05_09_archive.html

Clumsy google translation:
Colombia: The state declared a military target students."I called Chucky " J. M. Santos

Juan Manuel Santos, Santos oligarchic family owns a business empire of mass -media and countless land in Colombia, was booed on April 14, 2010 for the brave students at the University of Cali ( 1). Since then, several students are threatened and in danger of being victims of judicial assemblies , or even of being murdered by paramilitary tool of big business.
Juan Manuel Santos left his post as defense minister to run for the presidency of Colombia , has held management positions in the narco- paramilitary Uribe Vélez, and is repudiated by the Colombian people by the horror of " false positives ", between murders and other grisly auto- attacks of the Colombian regime .

The " False positives "are a monstrosity that would mourn the real doll Chucky
False positives are assassinations of children and youth by the Colombian army, and then mediate their corpses as " guerrillas killed in combat " (2).
Thousands of youths have been lured with promises of work , or kidnapped to be killed and then presented, with the complicity of a mass -media in Colombia are the spokesmen of the state army , as " guerrillas killed in combat. "

Many of those killed had been declared missing by their families and "appeared " a show televised : staging several times by the military has been so crude that they could have mass -media does not comply with its part of the installation .. . Sometimes the impact of the bullets in the flesh of the victims had passed "miraculously "the fabric of Uniform without causing holes in the fabric ... I mean it was more than evident that they had disguised after to kill them. But even this evidence was not sufficient to investigate the mass media . It is thanks to the insistence of relatives who became known this barbarism.
However, impunity reigns , for daring to denounce the State is to bring death or jail, so the state has made it clear through its paramilitary gunmen and their judicial assemblies . By denouncing the "false positives "have already killed several relatives complainants. Carmenza Gómez Romero had three sons , the first ( Victor Fernando) was assassinated by the state for his productions of " false positives "and the second ( John Nilson ) was murdered for exposing . Was shot on February 4, 2009 , the day was a meeting for the investigation into the killing of his brother had survived an attack , being pushed off a bridge ... After the assassination of John Nilson family continues to receive death threats ( 3 ).
You are 5000 registered cases of " false positives ", and the complaints continue , and the very practice of murder under this modality. The soldiers are rewarded financially according to the number of deaths; the Directive 029 of the Presidency Colombia, 2005, puts a price on "the guerrillas killed in combat ": creating a perverse dynamic (even more) members of the National Army of Colombia that can get bonuses , vacation days , or reassignment , presenting " guerrillas killed in combat. " In addition, to dress up as guerrillas killed civilians allows the state to kill trade unionists , students, farmers (4), and " legitimize " barbarism perpetrated much .
Mothers and relatives of those killed are fully cognizant of State Terrorism : In addition to the disappearance and murder of their children and families , and threats for reporting , provide helplessly as the masterminds and perpetrators enjoy total impunity.
For the thousands of " false positives ", and the implications of Santos in the formation of paramilitary groups (5 ), Santos was sent off for students with shouts of " Murderer! " and " Santos , Paracas , the people are Berraco ! "and could not deliver his electoral propaganda at the University of Cali.

"I called Chucky "... insidiously criminalizing student thought.
Santos subsequently appeared in the mass media of his family and other families oligarchs , all aligned with the lie that supports a genocidal regime , trying to conceal the evidence of having been repudiated by genocidal practices , saying : "I called Chucky... Chucky is what you use Anncol to refer to me, the FARC " ... (6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to3Dsb7VD6Q
Santos argues that the fact of having been called Chucky by students , is a " proof "that the FARC were " behind " its rejection , saying Chucky is the nickname that has put Anncol, and AnncolAs it is the FARC. None of the three things is true . Anncol is an independent news agency criticized the Colombian regime , and published news that the mass -media silence : why the regime, and attempts to criminalize sabotage and discredit constantly, as is done with all dissenting voices. Nor is it true that the nickname Chucky has been invented by AnncolIt is a nickname that has put the Colombian people , a " popular voice " , one of those nicknames that make you laugh and think at a time ... because it refers to a stuffed monster and murderer of a horror movie and that's a metaphor to refer to Santos for crimes against humanity for which responsibility rests with him and other champions of the scheme. Today , Colombia hundreds of jokes circulating calling Chucky Santos : because the voice of the underdogs do not shut your pain or jokes. It is also absurd to claim that the FARC were behind the rejection , rejection, are the students did what he has done Saints is the clear demonstration that students have had enough of the regime. To say that the FARC is behind his forceful condemnation , is to put students in the sights of the paramilitary and military tool of the State, putting them in grave danger of being killed.
Students are not anyone's puppet , students think alone ... Yes ... Yes think, the verb THINK: the act than under the regime of terror that reigns in Colombia is considered a crime since the high domes of the State, seeking at all costs to keep people in ignorance and docility to continue plundering the country and offered to plunder multinational.
And as students think and feel , the State declares military objective . As students think and feel, realize the barbarity and criminality without limits installed in the government of Colombia.
And repudiate the crimes of " false positives ", or repudiate the paramilitary strategy of the state, or repudiate the strategy of displacing millions of people by paramilitary massacres and military, or repudiate the DAS then explode bombs and plant "evidence" against opponents ( 7), or reject the injection of terror advocated by U.S. instructors , torture and enforced disappearance of 200,000 (two hundred thousand) Colombia (8) , torture and disappearances that continues daily , or repudiate the military bases USA, made from the thought and feeling ... and not to do so, which it does so is of the FARC or the ELN .... Why did not understand that the oligarchs as Saints? Or rather yes ... yes they understand very well, but use the stigma created by them to neutralize critical thinking and social empathy .
With the stigma of critical thinking remains imprisoned Colombian regime to 7,500 political prisoners ( 9), many in conditions of extreme torture (OMCT ).

Avoid thinking and empathy to reign forever
The oligarchs do not want people thinking . They want a country of drug traffickers installed as president (10), want the CIA to continue reaping the drug money , while Colombia puts the dead and is sprayed in the pantomime of "Fight against narco " conducted by ... by ... the major drug traffickers ? ... They want a country fired by paramilitary massacres (11 ), alcohol and dumbing down religious ultra accomplice injected by a church that exonerates and fanatics leading them to kill not only all who think about the social demands , but also to anyone who is minimally out of the legislation ( atrociously murdered gays and lesbians ( 12) ) ... The oligarchs do not want people to think : they want a docile and frightened country for thousands of paramilitaries who run brothels and rape the girls rebel students , or "red "or "guerrilla" , as they say ... Thousands of paramilitaries who were once young people, and today are small fascist monsters quartered people alive , burned in the crematoria and the cast to their breeding alligators (13), paramilitary swollen with religion, machismo, anticommunism , which predate the Colombian people , under the sinister smile on his masters of the oligarchy , for whom clear the country of social redemption.
The oligarchy prevails in feud over a million serfs thanks to ignorance and alienation injected by the mass media that normalize predators and individualistic values imposed by their owners . The standardization of a network of prejudice and discrimination mechanisms that legitimizes classism normalizes the existence of an elite over others. In every human being trampled and humiliated by the roots should be cut concern at the injustice. Instead, they should carry him to defend those who trample , for it gives the mean "privilege" of being able to blow off steam with those further down the pyramid. No doubt this is perverse mechanism that explains the brutality of the paramilitary torture .

The oligarchs want a country converted into silicon girls and prostitutes walking the drug lords , or want in the homes of the oligarchy, in their orgies of terror ... They want rural girls with no future in a field depleted by spraying By multinational mining , and devastated by the massacres by paramilitaries and military want them hungry and scared eyes, bad housing in the slums of big cities so they can be used as servants ... Girls 10, 12 , 13 who will work in the houses of upper middle class and the oligarchy accomplice , doing everything : even serve the " Master "or" master of the house "to enable "vent their manhood"... And they need to keep that pool of slave girls : to throw them at the slightest sign of insubordination , or when they are pregnant by venting the Master of the house.
Social injustice can continuously feed the oligarchs Quarry enslave. Use terror to kill any germs of emancipation that could eventually deprive them of their feudal privileges .
68% of Colombia's population lives in poverty and destitution. The concentration of wealth is scandalous : Colombia is the 11th most unequal country in the world social ( # 11 Gini coefficient of inequality) , and is the most unequal country in the Americas. We talked about there , according to figures more lenient , 8 million homeless and 20 million poor ( 14). Die annually more than 20 000 children under 5 years of acute malnutrition ( UNICEF figures ) of 100 displaced pregnant mothers , 80 suffer from chronic malnutrition (15). Simultaneously and sequentially to this misery , one banker , Sarmiento Angulo, controls 42 % of domestic credit and stated income of 1,250 million dollars in the last two months of 2009. ( 16 )

Brains malnourished and stunted children will never have a chance to recover , but business is booming
Paul Martin, UNICEF Representative for Colombia , stating how the child 's brain development is stunted by malnutrition, was a key question at a press conference in May 2009 : "The question we must ask ourselves is: Do we want a well-fed country boys with brains capable of learning ? Or a nation of malnourished and stunted brains (... )? " (17 ) The question was rhetorical , it is expected that with a similar question every human being is strongly in favor of a country of children fed with atrophied brains , but the capitalist means that big business is more important inflate their fortunes respect the personal health of millions of human beings .
The UNICEF representative exposure is very illustrative of the effects of the economic war :
"We have 12 % of children in Colombia with a problem of chronic malnutrition ( ... ) They will suffer physically and mentally, this 12% will never have the opportunity to contribute 100 % of the human capacity for development. Why? Because we know that 90 % of the capacity of the human being develops in his first three years , and we know that boys and girls who are malnourished before the age of 3 years will never be able to recover this part of human capacity. (... ) In an x-ray of the brain of a well-nourished child can see that the brain is very dense, with many interconnections , and beside him, the brain of a severely malnourished child is thin , you can see holes , even in the area of the brain itself , this is the physical damage caused by malnutrition that can not be recovered. "(17)
Despite these caveats, the large national and multinational fortunes have continued to grow exponentially in Colombia, through the dispossession of millions of peasants from their lands , privatization of health and other services , collection of usurious interest , the more expensive products staples, from paying poverty wages , the establishment of free zones , the use of public funds to finance the banking and large estate (case Agro Security Income (18 )), etc. . Winning Colombia will have proved so juicy the oligarchy in the last period (while most people were destitute ) the billionaires Mario Santo Domingo Sarmiento Angulo, both the privileged group of billionaires in the world 1125 , its fortunes soared . Santo Domingo is 6,000 million dollars: U.S. $ 2,000 million earned in the last year and rose to the position 123 of the world's great fortunes . For his part , Sarmiento Angulo , principal shareholder of Grupo Aval , jumped 150 places in the list of the world's rich richer , moving the post 285 to 135 , with a fortune of 5,600 million: increased the past year his fortune in 3200 dollars ( 19). Celebrate your winnings on a country become concentration camp which does not lack the ovens or mass graves of victims ( 20).
While the oligarchy celebrates its profits , millions of children will see their hopes dashed by future development and mass impoverishment , corresponding to the accumulation of capital in few hands.

Given this situation of inequality and impoverishment critical social claim is a necessity, but the response of the State and the big monopolies is to increase the pace of Terror impoverishment. Colombia is the world's most dangerous country for union : thousands of trade unionists have been murdered by the state through its military and paramilitary . Thousands of corpses of dissidents , peasants, students , trade unionists, grassroots leaders , are buried in mass graves throughout the Colombian geography. Recently discovered in Colombia the largest mass grave in the Americas, terrible discovery that has been almost completely invisible by mass -media in Colombia and the world ( 21). It contains the remains of at least 2,000 people . The inhabitants of the region , having been alerted by leaks rotting corpses of drinking water , and had complained on several occasions but had been in vain ... because the prosecution did not come to investigate. It was thanks to the perseverance of the families of missing persons and the visit of a British delegation observing the human rights situation in Colombia, in December 2009 , achieved uncovering this enormous crime perpetrated by military agents of a state that guarantees Impunity: since 2005 the Army had buried thousands of people there , buried without a name.
The massacres have been used by the State to stop the social demands and to achieve the massive displacement of populations: in this way has moved from their land to more than 4.5 million people ( 22 ), Which have left more than 10 million hectares ( 23 ). After the bombings and massacres, the land is empty of its inhabitants surrendered to the greed of multinational corporations and landowners who are co -financing the paramilitaries.

Mountains are dead and poisoned rivers aberrant soldiers paraded who defend the treads
The oligarchs want to the young men in his army of death, changed their lives enroll a scholarship for one of his brothers, by a promise of aid to housing, by the operation that they need to save a enlist family ... the change to give them the crumbs of what the same oligarchy and the multinationals , their partner in robbery , have robbed the country. The recruits in exchange for giving them something of what are basic human rights : health, housing, basic education ... those that have been commissioned to convert a privilege unavailable to the majority ... unless they agree to be their cannon fodder ...
Enroll the boys in batches of tens of thousands in the army, the grinding machinery lives, oiled by social injustice ... ( 24) enroll through the mechanism of compulsory military service that they can hardly avoid since without the Book Military can not graduate , or be employed , and those who escape are hunted by raids in urban and rural areas . Then the co-opting by abject blackmail based on their economic needs. Thus, the young men , cornered by necessity, be the soldiers of the army that protects those who exclude the very people a decent life . incongruous in the service of soldiers looting and impoverishment in the army which facilitates economic penetration by the massacres : an army of barbaric massacres entire villages to deprive the peasants. The oligarchy does not send a single child of his to be a soldier of this army of impoverished absurd that protect the rich.
While the children of the oligarchy stay in their private clubs, in their haute couture fashion shows or are going to walk through his beloved Europe (and which are despicable Latin America ), the sons of the people will go to protect oil pipelines, multinationals, the road network for the multinationals take out tons of coal, gold , nickel , wealth by not paying taxes but ridiculous : take the wealth abroad, leaving mountains dead , poisoned rivers , villages massacred ... The sons of the people will be enrolled in the army to protect the free trade zones , industrial crops oil palm fleece the ground to produce fuel for vehicles of the "first world" , these mega-crops that are the result of the dispossession of land for subsistence of millions of peasants , Afro- descendants and indigenous peoples. The children of people will be enrolled in an army that protects the disposal of tons of wood from Colombia, thousands of trees killed, destroyed ecosystems , broken lives , floating on the river network , rolling on the road network IRSA Terrible ... irony! The looted booty looted is guarded by the insured reaches ... So the huge ships waiting with open jaws to the borders of the country massacred ... This oiled machinery of plunder, protected by themselves sacked, is the magna scam of the looters ... Many children will die protecting the people around the aberrant status quo of social injustice that enslaves . The oligarchs in Colombia want their feud for good, and they want to all the impoverished people to the bone as they tell their fortune amassed through massacres and ecocide ...
But the students are clear , you see the oligarchs : neither the disappearance of 200,000 people by the paramilitary and military tool in the service state of big business has managed to annihilate the thought worthy. Students shouted that Mr. Santos: " the pain of every mother who lost her son in the "false positives " murderer out! "

Mass Graves and Alleged Extrajudicial Executions in the Macarena, Colombia

After Everardo Borda was killed by the armed forces on January 16, 2008 his body was allegedly dumped in a clandestine grave site directly beside the military base of the Rapid Deployment Force in the Macarena, Meta in central Colombia. According to the Inspector-General's initial report, there could be up to 2,000 non-identified bodies buried there. The Rapid Deployment Force (FUDRA in its Spanish acronym) has received considerable U.S. support since 2005 and the municipality of the Macarena and the surrounding region has been a focus of U.S.-backed military efforts to recover territory from the guerrillas.

On July 22 around 800 people from across the region came to the Macarena to tell an international delegation of political leaders, trade unionists and NGOs from the U.S. and Europe of the abuses they have suffered, many allegedly at the hands of the armed forces. Victims, like Everardo' father, Gerardo Borda, took the stage to tell of how their loved ones had been disappeared and killed reportedly by the armed forces and when they were finally able to find their body - and many are still looking - they were told their family member was a guerrilla killed in combat. According to those who gave testimony, the army has generally stigmatized people from the region as members - or at least allies - of the guerrilla. Indeed three days after the event Colombian President Alvaro Uribe flew to the Macarena and said publicly that accusing the armed forces of human rights abuses was a tactic used by the guerrilla. These comments put the lives of those victims who spoke at the event in grave danger.

The Macarena and the surrounding region were demilitarized as part of the failed peace negotiations between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in 1999 - 2002. The Army's subsequent recovery of the zone, via the creation and operation of the Joint Task Force Omega, has been highlighted by the Uribe Administration as a key success of the 'Democratic Security Policy'. The task force has been at the heart of the United States' support for the war against the FARC with a special focus in La Macarena. FUDRA, a central part of the task force, and its component mobile brigades have all been vetted to receive (and typically have received) U.S. assistance since 2005. Furthermore, the U.S. government has invested more than $40 million in the third phase of consolidation of state control in the zone, with the creation of the 'Centers for Consolidation and Integral Action' - CCAI. This new approach to state-building and counterinsurgency in Colombia involves a combination of military and development projects carried out in the same geographic areas, with the Macarena as the pilot program.

But, as the international delegation heard on Thursday, recuperation of the territory has come at an enormous cost for the civilian population. One of the participants, Dumar Zapata, told of how he returned home on July 4, 2007 to find his house occupied by the army. They refused to allow him in and when he asked for his wife, Maria del Socorro, they apparently told him that he should go look for her with the guerrillas seeing as she and Dumar were part of the FARC. A few days later when he was allowed into his house he found it destroyed and drops of blood across the kitchen floor. He went searching for his wife and was finally told that a body by that description had been dumped in the mass grave site in the Macarena. The army claimed she was a guerrilla killed in combat. Dumar told the delegation that he wants justice and for the truth to be told: that his wife was not a guerrilla, but another innocent victim.

As part of the delegation we visited the clandestine grave site, a field between the official commentary and the army base, which is full of crosses simply with dates of when the body was buried. Around 25 new graves have apparently been filled this year in the site. Local human rights groups have been denouncing the existence of the clandestine grave site for over a year, but only now with international pressure are they being listened to. It was only recently that the Attorney-General's office Crime Scene Investigations Unit began working at the scene. Regional human rights groups claim there may be other mass grave sites in the municipalities of Granada and Vista Hermosa.

Even if the bodies that the army is dumping in this site really do belong to guerrilla soldiers killed in combat, it is still a gross violation of international humanitarian law to leave their bodies in unmarked graves, without due process of identification of the deceased, medical examinations to determine the cause of death, reporting to the relevant authority and then burial if it is not possible to return the body to family members.

But, according to the testimonies shared on Thursday, it is quite possible that many of those unidentified bodies may belong to innocent civilians killed by the armed forces. It is imperative that these alleged extrajudicial executions be investigated and the Macarena mass grave site be exhumed for scientific identification of the rests in order to be returned to their families. For Mr. Borda, it was a year after his son Everardo went missing that he finally heard that his body was found in the mass grave site - and that the army had allegedly left him there claiming he was a guerrilla killed in combat.

U.S. government must fully implement the Leahy Law, which requires suspending assistance to brigades for which there is credible evidence of extrajudicial executions committed by its members - as appears to be the case for many brigades operating in the Macarena and the surrounding region - until and unless those killings are fully investigated and the civilian justice system reaches a judgment. Furthermore, the USG should strongly encourage Colombian President-elect Juan Manuel Santos, to ensure the protection of human rights is a central focus of his security policy.

12. Here's another possibility:
The UN is not a bunch of coffee shop revolutionaries who have pre-decided every issue and figure that an outgoing president with great experience in dealing with internal dissent would be a great member of a panel. Either that or they are paid off by Rumsefeld. Take your pick.

14. They are to be remembered for their peacekeeping work in Haiti, negatively.
What has happened there has been absolutely unforgiveable.

Someone's paying, that's for sure.

15. Uribe's appointment to flotilla probe guarantees its failure
Uribe's appointment to flotilla probe guarantees its failure
José Antonio Gutiérrez and David Landy, The Electronic Intifada, 6 August 2010

At the beginning of this month the Israeli government announced it would cooperate with one out of two international UN-sponsored investigation commissions into the 31 May Gaza Freedom Flotilla massacre, a move which UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon claimed was "unprecedented." However, the details of this commission and who will take part in it -- particularly the notorious outgoing president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez -- cast doubt over its impartiality.

The commission is composed of four persons, one chosen by Turkey, one chosen by Israel and two chosen from a list provided by Israel. The latter two are former Prime Minister of New Zealand Geoffrey Palmer, who will be the chair, and Uribe, who will serve as vice-chair. While Palmer, an expert in international law, is an uncontroversial choice, the appointment of Uribe is as perplexing as it is shocking. It appears that "balance" in this commission involves balance between someone versed in international and human rights law and someone who is adamantly opposed to it. This notion of balance fatally weakens this commission even before it has started, and tarnishes the process of international law.

Uribe is a controversial president whose regime has engaged in severe human rights abuses; illegal surveillance and harassment of human rights defenders by the intelligence service (DAS); international law violations (such as the bombing of Ecuadorian territory); corruption; crimes against humanity and excesses by the army in their US-sponsored counterinsurgency warfare.

Uribe's scorn for human right defenders is notorious. According to Human Rights First, "President Uribe and other administration officials have branded as terrorist sympathizers and have insinuated that illicit connections exist between human rights NGOs and illegal armed groups. Irresponsible comments by government officials in Colombia put the lives of human rights defenders at even greater risk and threaten to undermine the value and credibility of their work" ("Human Rights Defencers in Colombia").
