Colombian official: trade with Venezuela can be resumed under Chávez


Colombian Minister of Trade Luis Guillermo Plata did not rule out the possibility of resuming trade with Venezuela under the government of Hugo Chávez, who froze last year diplomatic and trade relations with Colombia.

"Things can change", and resumption of trade "does not depend on the fact that a president is in office or not," Plata told journalists in Washington, where the Colombian official is making a visit to promote a Free Trade Agreement with the United States.

"During the first 10 years of President Chávez's administration, there was an impressive trade growth," Plata said.

"Things can change as quickly as they deteriorated," the Minister stressed, as reported by AFP.
