Car bomb in Colombia

Reuters photo via O Estado de Sao Paulo

Buenaventura, southwest Colombia. At least six killed, 32 wounded. Number of victims expected to rise.

No immediate claim of responsibility but as per usual armed forces chief Gen. Freddy Padilla said FARC was responsible.

Buenaventura is a major hub/port for rightwing paramilitary narco-trafficking to Central America, Mexico and the United States.

1. And THAT was a car before the bomb? Unbelievable!
I clearly remember a car bombing which happened during Uribe's first inauguration. They all pointed and shouted the FARC "done it" then, too. It took a while but finally the truth came out when it was revealed some military officers did it themselves in an attempt to provide some drama to blame on the left.

Thanks for the insight on Buenaventura. Hope to hear more of this in the near future. Wow. :nuke:

3. Another photo

Wounded now more than 40, four critical.

This could be a smokescreen to draw attention away from the pending release by the FARC of two long-held captives this weekend. The releases are set for Saturday.

Brazilian helicopters are on standby for the release of two soldiers and the return of the remains of an army officer who died in captivity. (I think the helicopters and pilots are civilians, not Brazilian military but have not seen certain confirmation.)

Piedad Cordoba is coordinating. Red Cross, Catholic Church and Brazilians are involved so the Colombian military will not dare attack the FARC locations where the releases will take place. Coordinates will be given to the Brazilian pilots once they are in the air, not before.

As for the unreccs, we know they come from:

A ninny

A nincompoop

A simpleton

5. The timing is clear, isn't it? Good thing they arranged outside parties being involved
in this operation. I read about that part just this week and thought at the time it shows real wisdom. The Uribe side has taught them they can NEVER be trusted. Only need to look as far back as a couple of years ago.

The timing of that bomb seemed well thought out, as well, for max impact. That's a lot of people.

It's a miracle that building didn't collapse. It must be built like a fortress.

6. Colombian attorney general blames narco-traffickers

for the car bomb today.

Colombia's Attorney General Guillermo Mendoza said in Bogota there are three theories:

-- First theory: attack was retaliation by narco-traffickers against police who have carried out recent operations against drug traffickers in that region.

-- Another theory is that it was a result of a confrontation between opposing narco-traffickers. ("organized crime," or, in other words, paramilitary narco traffickers.)

-- Third theory: It may have been attack against the regional police and anti-drug authorities because of the arrest of a drug-trafficker named "Noses" recently. The explosion went off in front of the local police station and city hall. Two law officers were killed and six others wounded.

The attorney general said it was unlikely that the FARC had carried out the attack for the above reasons.

7. That's tremendous. What a hoot. The attorney general should watch his back!
He needs to be aware he just might become a target of a right-wing Uribe-death-squad-loving-internet fiend who has flipped out over the Attorney General's educated guesses which detract from the old traditional accusations against the terrifying FARCs.

Thanks for sharing the A.G.'s theories, rabs.
