To the international community and press. The community of Guadalupe Carnei in Silin, Trujillo, in northern Honduras is at grave risk of a massacre at the hands of the army and the golpista police.

As of the afternoon of July 18, the XV Battallion and the police, have the community surrounded and have begun to tighten the circle, meanwhile police helicopters are flying over the community. In the past there have been attempts to assault and forcefully take over the community .

Gualalupe Carnei is a campesino community that has been a part of the process of agrarian reform since its founding in 2000, and has been subjected to continuous harassment by the military. This has intensified since June 28, the day of the coup d’etat.

In recent days the pro-coup newspaper, The Heraldo, published that there is a guerrilla cell in the community, without a doubt attempting to create conditions to justify a massacre.

The discourse of the coup-makers, begun by the Cardinal, stating that Zelaya must not return to the country in order to “avoid a blood bath” is well known. All of this indicates that they are preparing massive and bloody attacks.

We call on the international community and particularly on the international press to make this information known in order to protect the Community of Guadalupe Carnei from the announced massacre.

We ask that President Arias be asked why he has never mentioned the repression against the Honduran people resisting the coup, why has he never proposed measures to stop the grave violations of Human Rights occurring in this country.

A la comunidad y a la prensa internacionalLa comunidad de GUADALUPE CARNEI, SILÍN, TRUJILLO, al norte de Honduras se encuentra en grave riesgo de vivir una masacre a manos del ejército y la policía golpistas.

En horas de la tarde de ayer, 18 de julio, el XV batallón y la Policía, que tienen rodeada la comunidad, empezaron a estrechar el cerco, mientras sobrevolaba un helicóptero de la Policía. En días pasados ya intentaron tomar por asalto la comunidad.

GUADAPUPE CARNEI es una comunidad campesina que desde el año 2000 vive un proceso de reforma agraria, por lo que ha vivido continuos hostigamientos de parte de los militares, y con mayor intensidad desde el 28 de junio, día del golpe de estado.

En días pasados el periódico golpista Heraldo publicó que en esta comunidad hay una célula guerrillera, lo que sin duda es una forma de crear condiciones para justificar una masacre. Y es bien conocido el discurso de los golpistas, iniciado por el cardenal, que plantea que Zelaya no debe regresar al país para “evitar un baño de sangre”. Todos estos son indicadores de que preparan ataques masivos y sangrientos.

Si hasta ahora el ejército y los golpistas no han desatado una represión masiva e indiscrimanada en todo el país es porque saben que la comunidad internacional los ve, gracias a lo que desde los medios de comunicación se divulga. Por eso, comunidades como Guadalupe Carnei, fuera de las cámaras de los corresponsales extranjeros, corren un grave riesgo.

Llamamos a la comunidad internacional y muy particularmente a la prensa internacional a divulgar esta información para proteger a la comunidad de Guadalupe Carnei de una masacre anunciada.

Les solicitamos que pregunten al Presidente Arias por qué nunca ha mencionado la represión que está viviendo el pueblo de Honduras que resiste el golpe de estado, por qué nunca ha planteado medidas que impidan las graves violaciones de los Derechos Humanos que están viviendo en el país hermano.

1. I read earlier, yesterday (?) there were around 200 soldiers surrounding a small town of 600 people.

It didn't make any sense they were doing this.

Now it looks as if the entire little town has been taken hostage by the coup, and will be sacrificed if they don't get their way.

Hell of an idea, isn't it? It's so right-wing, like the trolls.

Sure saves time with elections, doesn't it?

This is so bad: probably close to the nastiest thing I've heard heard in my life.
