Brazil's Lula calls for Zelaya return in Honduras
SAO PAULO, June 29 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned on Monday the military coup in Honduras and said Brazil would only recognize a government headed by deposed leader Manuel Zelaya.
"We cannot accept or recognize any new government other than President Zelaya, because he was voted into office, complying with the rules of democracy," Lula said in his weekly radio address.
"This is the only way we can have relations with Honduras," he added. "If Honduras does not change its stance, it's going to end up totally isolated, surrounded by an enormous contingent of democratic countries."

1. Lulu's got it right. They are surrounded with democratic leftist governments--
El Salvador to the west, Nicaragua to the south, Guatemala to the north, plus all the democratic/leftist governments in South America: Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela. What can the RW forces in Honduras be thinking? Honduras will be a total pariah. No one will recognize them (not even the U.S., apparently). Costa Rica is at least democratic, if not leftist; so is Mexico (and even Mexico's rightwing government apparently condemned the coup).

I'm thinking of this reported (but not confirmed) murder of Congressman Cesar Ham, THE leftist prez candidate (for Nov's election), and a Zelaya ally and backer of the referendum. Are they trying to decimate the opposition, so that, when a compromise is negotiated, the RW still ends up in power in Honduras? (Is this why Chavez is saying "no compromise" with the coup? He's onto the true motives and plan of the coup?)

I can't find out much about this--how popular Congr Ham was (or how popular Zelaya was, for that matter--I don't trust Associated Pukes or other RW reports on this); what Ham's prospects in the election were; how organized the grass roots movements are, etc.--and of course we don't know for sure if Congressman Ham is dead.

2. you just recently were saying Zelaya is not a leftist and compared him to Uribe
so what is it? is he right or left? and the new president is of the same political party.
