Peru protesters shut road to Buenaventura mine

LIMA, June 15 (Reuters) - Access to Buenaventura's <BVN.N> <BUEv.LM> Orcopampa gold mine in Peru has been shut by protesters, the company said Monday.

The protest was held after Peru's largest mining federation called off a nationwide strike set to start Monday. The nationwide strike plans were scrapped after Congress voted on retirement rules and promised to debate a profit-sharing bill.

"It's premature to be talking about whether (the blockade) has impacted production, and by how much," Carlos Galvez, Buenaventura's chief financial officer, told Reuters. "First, we have to see how long this lasts."

He said motivations for the protest were "unclear" ...
