The Russians plan to drill for oil off the coast of Cuba. Russia and Venezuela want to rebuild a Soviet refinery in Cienfuegos on the southern coast.

Russian President Dimitri Medvedev is touring Latin America drumming up business and strengthening relationships throughout the region.

Meanwhile, our brilliant policymakers remain more or less hunkered down behind Washington bulwarks, stubbornly refusing to interact with the island nation thousands of Americans would love to visit. Cuba is closer to Florida than St. Louis is to Columbia.

How stupid can we remain?

Colombia, Missouri is a small college town, hosting the University of Missouri, halfway between Kansas City and St. Louis. They've been calling for normalizing relations with Cuba for years.
