Polymer clay jewelry, round 3
The latest attempt involves working with copper leaf, and embedding it into translucent clay. I got some neat effects by layering different colors of red together with the copper, then squishing them, slicing them up, and rolling them back together.

And the coloration inspired me to put together a necklace for the first one. The pendants still need some polishing, and I may embellish a bit more, but overall I like it.

Actually, the top picture (left piece) looks like it has Geo. Washington's profile in it. A happy accident!

2. The asymetrical effect is very nice.
Do you apply glaze after polishing? That might be a way to get some shine. Also I've hear that people dip finished polyclay beads into Future floorwax.

3. no glaze yet, im still considering it
I might try some on one of the smaller peices first to see how it turns out.
the tricky thing about translucent clay is that you want a 'deep' shine rather than a 'surface' shine that you get from a glaze. I've just been polishing and buffing the heck out of them to see what works.

4. Let me know what happens here
I tried a 3 mm thick round of Sculpey transparent clay to make a peace symbol with, and it came out looking like paraffin. It seems to be clear enough with a thin coating for decoupage onto clay, but there may be some limits in getting a deep shine by more polishing. Maybe my problem is the brand, though.

5. I'm using Premo
and I found the same problem. If you use translucent clay on its own, it ends up looking waxy unless its REALLY thin. But if you mix it with another color, you can get a deeper shine, and the waxyness comes out when it bakes.

8. additional pic
using the second pendant, with some silver wire and Czech glass. I figure I can string this with some tiger tail to make the final necklace.
