The slow restoration of constitutional rights begins.

The Senate Armed Services Commitee has passed legislation “that would grant new rights to terror suspects held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including access to a lawyer regardless of whether the prisoners are put on trial.” It would also “narrow the definition of an enemy combatant and tighten restrictions on the types of evidence used to prosecute and keep a person detained.” The legislation “has raised red flags at the White House as potential veto bait.”

1. It is of monumental importance
to restore this country to abide by the Constitution. From many sources, I've read that many of these prisoners were turned in by warlords, hoping to collect a reward. We are making more enemies every day
that we allow human rights violations to continue.

If we have a case against someone, let us bring charges, and conduct a fair trial. That does NOT include confessions made under torture, or secret evidence, or absence of legal counsel. I think Thomas Jefferson and James Madison would side with me on this.

3. Veto "bait"?
As in "it'll be sent to the WH knowing Bush** will veto it, just to make him look bad"??

How about it NOT being about the conceited boy king, just once? How about it being about doing the RIGHT thing, the AMERICAN thing, and Bush** standing in the way yet again?

5. Every time there's a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel...
...(of ANY of these politically opressive "tunnels" of despair!)...the light flickers and fades.
Please, I don't want my hopes crushed again.
