What I want to know: Where are all the "shared sacrifices" speeches we should be hearing?
In the time of two ongoing wars, where the wealthy are going to get an extension on their windfall and soldiers are being re-deployed over and over again - WHERE is the asking of a shared sacrifice from all of the country?

While mainly the children of the middle class and below sacrifice their limbs, blood, minds and lives for the US, when is the upper class going to do their part! When is someone going to even ASK them to do their part?

Here we are at another Christmas where we have all these soldiers, many of them young people, away in a war - again - and this fucking group of male, white conservative politicians are allowed to push for the ability of the well off to fill their Christmas stockings while sacrificing nil. And the are NOT even asked to!

It pisses me off that for the last week or more we have had a continuing goddamned debate over the wealthy and THEIR tax cut and very little said about these wars and these soldiers. And let's not forget the less fortunate either.

But hey, screw that "shared sacrifice".....as long as that new BMW or Helzburg diamond can land in your stocking, that's all that matters.

1. We'll get those next year
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 01:46 AM by DJ13
When the government starts the great deficit fear so they can begin slashing entitlement programs to help offset continuing those tax cuts for the wealthy.

Of course, all the sacrifice is expected to be paid (again) by the poorest among us.

The wealthy dont do sacrifice.

4. Kind of hard to make a shared sacrifice speech when the rich aren't sacrificing anything

I'm sure they'll get around to it in a desperate attempt to rouse and rally the troops (us that is).

Good post. Rec'd. I'm pissed too. Angry. Enraged.

5. sacrifices are only for the poor and middle class
Utra rich don't sacrifice, like the tax deal shows, they just keep getting more. Not rich? Too bad, seems to be the message.

6. we fight their wars, we pay their taxes, we bail out their banks to insure their retirement, we may
retire later on less if we survive -- and then they turn their rhetoric on us

8. America lacks social cohesion needed for "sharing" anything
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 09:09 AM by Bragi
The notion of "shared sacrifices" only makes sense and has appeal in a country where there is some degree of social cohesion and some common goals.

There is little to no social cohesion or set of common goals in contemporary America. It's why Americans are so isolated from each other and politically docile.

It's why you can take away the jobs of Americans, steal their savings, pilfer their pensions and foreclose on their homes without a single public demonstration of opposition.

Americans are more inclined to respond to massive social and economic abuse by blaming themselves as individuals for not working hard enough, not being smart enough, etc. etc.
