I do not believe in giving an allowance for making beds or doing dishes.
Why? Because paying children for doing their share of family life tasks does not teach them basic values of helping and doing their share without expecting a reward.

That is why I am not in the camp that fawns over this administration's "accomplishments" posted here at DU.

Why? Because given the 2008 election results and having a majority in both houses, they were elected to do what they were supposed to do, work and legislate.

But for some unknown reason, they started blinking. I voted for Obama because I believed he was so strong, and so focused that he would sit at the table and be a force for good and reason. I voted for Obama believing he would seldom to never blink.

You know what happens when you blink. You miss nuance. You don't pick up on eye-shifting and mouth twitching. When you blink, you reveal your hand and lose at poker.

I am going to devote the next hour to calling Pelosi, my Senators and Blue Dog nut job's and tell them to fight and for all that is good in this world. Don't blink.

I think there is a consensus that wants somebody in DC to stand up to the GOP and not blink.

1. Regarding your thread title, not the true subject of your post.
I think domestic work should be paid. But then, I'm a radical feminist.

2. I thought the word "allowance" referred to children not hired help. Am I wrong?

5. Never mind, I was just being kind of silly.
My point (not that it really matters) was that I think domestic labor should be a paying job for stay-at-home moms or dads.
I'm against children being in the labor force, but they should be trained in the home on how to do stuff, like washing dishes etc. same as they go to school without being paid money. So I agree with you on that point.

I just shot my mouth off because the domestic labor issue has been one that has been one of my pet issues for years. Totally irrelevant to the purpose of your thread, so I apologize.

6. Oh my goodness, I appreciate silly...no apology needed...but thanks. I am twisted up
in knots and appreciate the opportunity to express my view. I have been involved in politics since high school and shaking JFK's hand. I lived and died a little bit during Vietnam and Nixon and Reagan, and the Bushies....but this disappointment has taken the cake and the wind out of my political sails...because in my heart I believe the 2008 election provided opportunity that was squandered.

3. We should have known it was going this way the second that "Team of Rivals"
bullshit started.

4. Sad and true. Another thing I told my kids..."if you want to see your future,
look at your friends".....in Obama's case, not his friends but.....Geitner et al.

7. Having a very difficult time getting through to Congressional offices. I hope that is a good
sign that people are mad and want Congress to man up.
