Thom Hartmann today talked about Obama NOT RUNNING in 2012!
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 10:12 PM by Omaha Steve

He said basically Obama is not leading the party. Let somebody that will lead have time to put together a campaign.

Thom has been a cheerleader for Obama since he jumped in the race. I was shocked.

I'm sure there is a way on his site to find the exact quote.

1. I don't think he'll run.
I HIGHLY doubt the big Whigs in the party want their asses handed to them by the Teabaggers again. We need a DEMOCRAT with some moxie who will stand up to the repuke thugs. Enough of this playing nice shit!

7. Maybe it was because....

Lieberman was on the ticket? I think very little of Lieberman for most of his actions the last 10 years.

8. So did a lot of people who voted Obama in 2008.
And many of them worked harder in the fall of 2008 than the Gore groupies did.

11. Hartmann is a rigid ideologue...
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 10:12 PM by jefferson_dem
His purity critiques sound really cool over the airwaves... But bear minimal relevance to how the real political world operates.

13. Hartmann's wife voted for Gore and they lived in blue state Vermont at the time
Hartmann has repeatedly said that he and his wife split their votes because they lived in Vermont at the time and they knew Gore would win it. Thom wanted the Green Party to reach the 5% threshold and that is why he voted for Nader in 2000.

17. So, if we believe that, Hartmann actually supported Gore for president.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 10:29 PM by jefferson_dem
I wonder if he (and folks on this board for that matter) actually thinks Obama in 2012 will be less desirable than Gore was in 2000.

20. I voted for Nader for that reason too (get the green party 5%)

I knew Gore had no chance at a Ne. win.

6. but it sure as hell works as efficiently as one when the rich demand something
$700 billion?

$3.3 trillion?

No problem! The checks already in the mail!

Real health care reform for the middle class? That's gonna be half-assed and slow as molasses, and then still mostly help the rich.

and so on.

9. Hartmann can say what he wants and it won't mean shit to me. But ... you really should be honest...
about his take on Obama. He is no "cheerleader". ...

Unless you consider (unfairly) routinely reaming POTUS with supposedly progressive critiques as "cheerleading".

Maybe it's "cheerleading" when, a year ago, Hartmann harped about Obama's "sellouts". http://redtory.wordpress.com/2009/12/17/thom-hartmann-obama%E2%80%99s-big-sellouts/ or when he compared Obama to Nixon. http://vodpod.com/watch/5040805-thom-hartmann-compares-obama-and-nixon There are tons of examples of Hartmann whining about how Obama's not pure enough for his tastes. This latest nonsense about leadership is simply more of the same. Frankly, his shtick bores me.

16. I don't believe he ever intended to run for an additional term. Four years will still get him
a lucrative pension and ss protection. We've seen democratic stamina, and he has none, IMHO.

21. I like Hartmann (in small doses,
mostly for having Brunch with Bernie),

but he is still a Hillbot. Despite the fact that she has said she never
wants to run for an office again, Hartmann still wants Obama to put her on the ticket in 2012 instead of Biden.

31. I, along with many other DUers,
supported Nader against Lieberman in 2000. We were likewise accused by some here on DU, of "supporting the GOP-funded candidate". I frequently ask myself: "Were those 'pragmatists' in 2000, these same 'purists' of 2010?"

Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 11:08 PM by senseandsensibility
He has bent over backwards to give him the benefit of the doubt. It is only recently that the criticisms have been more severe. He backs his opinions up with fact, and is not over the top. I'm a regular listener, and he has always wanted Obama to succeed. His disillusionment mirrors mine, and is painful for me to listen to.

38. Thom talks about how we must keep the WH in 2012 to keep the SCOTUS nominations on our side

Perhaps the biggest reason for Obama to get his act together and win Nov. 2012.

37. If Obama had any loyalty to Democratic ideals and voters, it would be the second best thing
he could do after starting to govern as a progressive and bringing Wall Street and the GOP to heel instead of being their bitch.

If he stepped down, a progressive replacement would at least have a chance. If someone runs in primaries against Obama, the GOP will win the election.
