So, here I am sitting in Beijng as it appears a war 500 miles away may start.

As I said yesterday it's a bit eerie. I was at a party last night and that was pretty well the only topic of conversation. Us expats are particularly concerned because China often steps up harassment of us at the blink of an eye. During the 60th anniversary it was constant harassment to see papers and such. So I can just imagine if they have a new, massive war involving the USA on their border we are going to be hounded to no end.

The Chinese people seem to be of two thoughts, some are afraid they will join the war (which they won't). Others are just nervous to have this happen so close to home. If a warhead is used will we be victims of fallout? Is a big concern.

Communications could be cut out as well, you just never know how China will react to any initial fighting. This government spooks easily. I am a bit relieved as it now seems NK's threats of striking the drills seem to be slowly becoming less severe. I think they know playtime is over and any further action will mean serious retaliation.

Again though, it's really eerie being here today.

2. It is eerie in the West Coast

If I were reduced to news models i'd know nothing of this...

AP is reporting another round of shelling, but hard to tell if this is this morning's or a new one.

The SA-2 are defensive...take care.

Worst case they'll have to wake our news models and CONUS will also be affected...mostly food.

Nubby and I were talking about it. This lasts...who knows? Hope the saber rattling is over for everybody's sake.

4. I've just been listening to news out of France and the situation

sounds very grave, indeed.

I don't even know which is worse, being there or being here.

It's in everybody's best interest to rein in the maniacs on both sides.

Whether that will be done is anyone's guess at this point.
