Unclassy Bristol comments on why she wanted to win !
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 09:15 AM by saracat
Notice please, she has no comments on "talent". I guess her message weren't delivered after all. Happy Thankshiving to us all.

Brooke - "Bristol, what would it mean to win tonight?"

Bristol - " It would be like a big middle finger out there to all the people that hate my Mom."

Stay classy Bristol. You really showed ALL of the Palin's true colors and ugly personalities last night. You were really raised well (not).

39. Debates mean nothing unfortunately.
Kerry handed Bush his ass in their debates. Bush still got enough votes to steal it.

Jan Brewer had maybe the worst meltdown in debate history and she won somewhat easily.

Too much of the American populace is made up of morons without any sense of reality, history or for that matter, dignity. They think knowledge is elitist.

21. they actually do value that. they call it "loyalty".
one of the BIG differences between democrats and republicans is that democrats are loyal to all of america and all americans, whereas republicans are loyal to a far more selective group.

in bristol's case, the loyalty to "mom" matters far more than the unclassy insult to the competitors who outperformed her, or the vast majority of americans (and the whole world) who are rightly disgusted that sarah was ever and may again be taken seriously as a major political force.

because the people that they're insulting are OUTSIDE of the selective group they value, they're blind to the rottenness of such insults. they only see it as sticking up for someone INSIDE the selective group. therefore, it actually *IS* warm and compassionate in their twisted worldview.

38. Here is a link to more of her pouting comments, claims that the media is at fault
and as if that exaggeration is not enough, the new excuse for not winning is that before the final, she was "slammed" with death threats. She is a carbon copy of Momma Grizzley (who looks a bit pissed off in the article photo). None of them have or are willing to cultivate good character or even take a break from lying/exaggerating. Imagine living in such an immature and paranoid family tribe... or worse, having them "lead" our country. Shudder.

31. I'll say it for the millionth time, NO right wing fanatic can be a practicing Christian!!!
It's impossible to be a conservative extremist and a practicing Christian at the same time. The are exact opposites of each other. Right wingers seem to hate ALL of Jesus' teachings yet they claim to be holy, family values people. No real, practicing Christian could support wars, executions, torture, spying, division, lies, hate, racism, fear and eagerly lap up ever drop of hate-stew fed to them by hate merchants like Beck, Hannity, OReilly and Limblah.

'Conservative Christian' is an oxyMORON. (or is that 'oxymoran'?)

But I still probably would have defended them, especially at Bristol's age or younger. I would like to think I would have done it in a classier manner, but I can't say with certainty that I would have. BTW, would you say that the toddler with Down Syndrome and the nine year old have ugly personalities as well?

I'm telling you folks, cracking on the Palin kids is not the way to go. It might make you feel good, but the only real effect it can have is to gin up sympathy for Sarah. And sometimes sympathy makes the difference in the voting booth.

37. She is an adult and you're right, she's technically 'fair game'
But adult or not, she's still Sarah Palin's child and attacking her is still going to benefit Sarah.

Have you folks stopped to think why Sarah Palin has put her family out there in the first place? I'm sure a good part of it has to do with constructing the Sarah Palin brand as a family woman etc. But the more cynical side of me also thinks it's partly a dare. I imagine pollsters know that attacking a politician's family usually helps the politician more than it hurts them. So she has nothing to lose by putting her kids out there, but potentially something to gain if they are attacked and it creates sympathy.

A lot of voters are parents, including of adult children.

42. I understand what you are saying but more and more folks are being turned off by this hypocrisy
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 11:24 AM by saracat
and I think it benefits us more than it benefits Palin, so we have to disagree. When folks attacked Chelsea Clinton and Amy Catrer, they were innocent children who had done nothing to deserve it. Bristol has opened her own mouth and displayed the fruits of her upbringing.

I actually defended the Bush twins when folks trashed them because they were just kids doing what kids do. It bears reminding that neither the Clinton's or the Carters set themselves up as parental examples and considered themselves "better parents" than the average. And much as I dislike Dubya, I think the girls turned out fine. The problem with the Palins is not really what they do and say in private life but the fact that they deny others the rights they assume for themselves. They scream invasion of privacy and then film Joel McGinness. They preach morality and celibacy but don't practice it.They preach dedication to the family unit andare absentee parents. The hypocrisy is stunning and Bristol is a living example. Bristol is complaining that Grey used her surgery and played the Patrick Swayze card, in addition to other comments. These people have no class and no humanity.
I also find it very telling that there was no mention of "talent" whatsoever in Bristol's remarks. Apparently, she doesn't feel it necessary to possess any talent to win a dance show.DWTS is all about her mother to her and nothing to do with herself. That is very sad.

54. I agree with some of this, but not all
Perhaps what I'm also reacting to is a larger issue that isn't really about the Palins, but about public perceptions and the culture of celebrity. One problem with people in the public eye is that they are out there to be judged, but IMO, the public usually doesn't have enough good information to make fair judgments about them, particularly regarding character. Sometimes we do have enough information and I'm not placing all of the blame on the public either, because people who put themselves in the public eye know full well what they are getting themselves into.

When it comes to the Palin children, I just don't feel that I know enough about any of them to say much. I've never met them and I don't feel what I have seen is a full enough portrait to make judgments. If you feel the Palins have 'no class and no humanity,' that's your business, but I haven't drawn that conclusion myself. I would have to know a lot more about them to feel comfortable saying that.

Like I said before though, I think the main reason I object to discussing criticizing Sarah's family is that I think it's risky for Democrats to do so. I might be wrong and you might be right. It's also possible it doesn't matter much either way. We'll see I guess.

103. "Brave" ? You are kidding , right? Ripping into Jennifer Gray for
her surgery and claiming she played the Patrick Swayze card and whining how unfair it was she had to compete against her is "brave"? Talking about giving people the middle finger for hating your mother while you encourage people to vote for your participation in a talent show for which you have no talent, but are paid $200, 000 to participate is trashy, particularly as you whine all the way to the bank and turn every photo op into a campaign stop for your Mom! You bet I am superior to Bristol. I have a lot more than that poor girl does. I have an education and had better parents than she could imagine and I defended my mother on multiple occasions and with a lot more dignity that Bristol will ever display.

41. I think the operative word here is 'humility'
I said that I would like to think that at 20 I would have defended my parents in a classier manner. I think there's a good chance I would have. But I don't have such a high estimation of myself that I can guarantee that I would do the right thing in any hypothetical situation -- especially at a time when I was still learning how to behave as an adult.

As for the younger children, the OP stated that Bristol 'showed ALL of the Palin's true colors and ugly personalities last night.' All I did was ask if that applied to the youngest children as well. It was meant to be instructive. You see, when you criticize the Palin family as a whole, you're including young children in your criticism. And a lot of people don't like criticism of young children. Even more probably don't like criticism of young children with Down Syndrome. I'm not saying this because I care about the Palin family. I'm saying it because I think this type of criticism can only help Sarah Palin's public image.

And I don't hate baby Jesus. I just make him cry.

43. No one is so daft as to think the OP was an attack on a Downs Syndrome child.
And Bristol's ridiculously crass behavior AS WELL AS any attempt to point it out does nothing to boost Palin's public image. I would think her extremely low approval numbers bear that out.

I believe the operative word here is "hubris". The Palins have LOADS of it.

But then, I had classier parents! I am sorry for Bristol because she really has been neglected. And I am also sorry for the baby.He has been nothing more than a prop.

I would imagine that anyone who inferred a verbal attack on the infant with Down's Syndrome is consciously and actively looking for an insult.

And a funny thing about insults is that they can be found anywhere... even in places where they do not exist.

57. You can read the OP and judge for yourself
Of course I don't think anybody here would mean to insult an infant with Down Syndrome, but nevertheless, the OP did state that Bristol's comment showed the ugly personalities of all of the Palins. And Trig is a Palin. This is what my real beef is here. Even if the OP didn't intend to insult the child, it could certainly be spun and perceived that way. And as you know, spin and perception can go a long way in politics.

Yes I know, this is the internet and it doesn't matter and all that. But I think it's dangerous for Democrats to criticize Palin's family. I really believe it can only help her, so I don't see anything to gain by dong it. Like I said in an earlier post, perhaps this is one of the reasons that she's put her family out there -- to lure her opponents into a trap, since criticizing them has the potential to increase sympathy for her. Cynical? Yes. Effective? Maybe, maybe not. But why risk finding out?

You're right, people do sometimes see things that aren't there. But if nobody criticizes the Palin family, there won't be any insults, real or imagined, to be found. Do you think the benefits of such criticism justify the potential risks?

78. The Palins, Bristol and her mother, put themselves out in the public
eye for one reason only, money. As for the OP saying Bristol showed all of the Palin's true colors and ugly personalities last night', she did. I know only Bristol and her mother, so I completely agree. As for the other children, I know nothing about them. I hope they grow up better than big sister and their mother.

Palin has a 28% approval rating in this country. I wouldn't worry too much about her getting any sympathy when it was she who felt the money was worth putting herself and her daughter in the spotlight. That was their choice.

Her daughter's comment shows an ignorance of the important things in life, that I almost feel sorry for her. I'm sure Chelsea Clinton often felt like defending her mother, and father from the viciousness of the press, far more vicious than anything Palin has been subjected to. But she has class, that's the difference.

It's not like her mom forced her to go on DWTS. When a "celebrity" like Paris Hilton or one of the Jersey Shore cast does or says something stupid, we comment on that...so why should we treat Bristol any different?

She just didn't get the fact that she had no right being in the finals. The Palins are a delusional lot, propped up by MSM. If MSM started to ignore them, they would all just go away.

that she had every right to be in the finals.

Let the general public in on something like that rather than limit the judging to judges who know what they are doing, and things go awry.

I watched the finals of American Idol a couple of years ago, where Adam Lambert did "We are the champions", and it made my eyes leak. He didn't win.

got off their asses because of the Spawn's comments and attitude along with baggers voting campaign of her mother's supporters, and decided to do something about it. Well they did. The cream rose to the top. I really feel sorry for was Brandy and she was collateral damage. She was a beautiful dancer.

80. It's obvious that living under Sarah Palin's roof has given her this sense of entitlement
Had she not been artificially promoted by the wingers, her ass would have been canned a long time ago.

In case she forgot, SHE WAS IN A DANCE COMPETITION, not some political statement for her mom.

It should have been ALL about little miss Bristol, and we see that according to HER OWN WORDS it wasn't.

When all the boos came out when she "won" over Brandy (Who was a much better dancer), she should have known that the jig was UP!

But like any other delusional, right wing brat, she could never see the writing on the wall.

If she knew any better, she should feel good about ending up at third place... Because, it gives her something that's in common with her mom.

Now there are TWO poor losers in that family.

This is not a "child"---this is an adult on a Reality TV Show who insults the audience. If she wants privacy, PLEEEEZE, crawl back under the rock she slithered out from. Her comments were a calculated political assault meant to get sympathy for her "victim of the media" mother. She is a political hack, not an innocent child of a politician.

101. She wasn't insulting the audience.
She was insulting the 'haters' who spew poison words about her for no reason other than they love to hate everything about Sarah Palin including her offspring. She spoke up about it only with that one little sentence, and everybody acts like she stepped out of line by even saying that much.

If the shoe fits you can wear it. It clearly fits the majority of people posting on this topic.

Ms. Palin, of limited talent by any measure and on the show only because of who her mother is, is quite arrogant in her assumption her winning a contrived, overly dramatic show designed to numb the masses matters to anyone who dislikes her mother for her reactionary politics and frightening religious beliefs. Now, if she won a Nobel prize, well, that's something different...

I don't know, I don't watch DWTS, but Jennifer Grey - well, Baby Boomers and Gen Xers saw her move her body in Dirty Dancing (Oh My God, what a great movie ) so either she still has it or we all just have a lot of nostalgia. Anyway, don't athletes often win also? So, it seems DWTS is at least somewhat about talent.

Unlike elections, results of DWTS don't matter, whether it's really about talent or just a big popularity contest the results of that vote count don't really affect our lives.

Face it, Bristol Palin is little different than Kevin Federline or Kim Kardashian. It's like, tell me again, why are you famous?

And now that I've made myself feel and sound old...
