Southern Poverty Law Center Gays are most likely victims of hate crimes
http://splcenter.org/get-informed/news/splcs-intelligence-report-gays-targeted-for-hate-crimes

Homosexuals are far more likely to be victims of a violent hate crime than any other minority group in the United States, according to a new analysis of federal hate crime statistics in the latest issue of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Report, released today.

The SPLC’s analysis of 14 years of hate crime data found that homosexuals, or those perceived to be gay, are more than twice as likely to be attacked in a violent hate crime as Jews or blacks; more than four times as likely as Muslims; and 14 times as likely as Latinos. The findings are based on FBI hate crime statistics from 1995 to 2008, the period for which there is complete data. The basic pattern also holds true in individual years

end of quote

It is tough being gay. Being gay isn't for sissies.

One I did forget a semi colon so sue me. Two, actually I am a bit surprised Muslims aren't both higher on the list and maybe even higher than gays.

4. K & R
SPLC has been doing valuable research on hate crimes and hate groups for decades. They know what they're talking about, and it's information that needs to get out there.

16. Miss you, too.
(without hijacking dsc's thread...) I testified last week in front of the NJ Senate and Assembly Education Committees in support of the Anti-Bullying Bill of RIghts. I just got back from Trenton a few hours ago where I got to watch the bill pass from the floor of both legislative chambers.

Heres some video from last week's testimony:

Hope you are doing well. xoxo

19. It's important they did this. The FBI data is so skewed. Many states don't track LGBT hate crimes.
It's easy to hide LGBT attacks because there is generally little or no photographable physiological difference between perpetrator and victim. Add to that the number of right-wing people who consider being gay, lesbian, or transgender as "behavior" and not a member of a group with protected status. What you get is a hell of a lot of underreporting.
