Do you want the minimum wage raised and do you care about Katrina victims?

Bush and the Republicans don't.

Putting the "Dems caving" issue aside for a moment, did you know that in this "compromise," that Bush was trying to slip some things under the rug. You say, no, not Bush. Well, while everyone is railing about the Dems "caving", there are few things that have gone unnoticed by our sweet dear media. It's a damn shame.

For example:

The bill also funds about $17 billion in domestic and military-related spending that Bush did not request. For their part, Republicans said they are pressing the White House to insist that Democrats drop billions in added funding, particularly some $8 billion for domestic projects.

"We want to see the toughest possible line on extraneous spending in the bill," said Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Florida, chair of the House Republican Conference.

According to aides and members, the White House grudgingly agreed to accept the added spending in exchange for Democrats dropping restrictions on military operations.

While the Iraq withdrawal is forefront on the agenda, why let the things the Dems are trying to do right go unnoticed? The republicans don't even want you and I to have a fair minimum wage and to hell with Katrina they say--fend for yourselves. You shouldn't be living in that sinful city to begin with

11. The DEMS did not have to rob Peter to pay Paul...
Or should I say Shrub.

We could have gotten the wage hike anyway - as a vast majority of We The People support that as they do an Iraq time-line.

Yep. The wage hike is important, but it is very small comfort for front-line troops and their worried families --- stuck in a reckless and immoral war. No justice for the countless who will die or get injured; sorry, I just can't fathom it as a fair trade.

I'd rather see the war end.

There is no appropriate pay off to the American people for NOT ending a war that should not be happening, much less into year 5!

They just tossed us a bone. They could have passed this legislation separately...why did they feel the need to place it in this poison funding bill? A little sugar helps that bitterness? Enjoy that bone

the funding for the war and domestic spending.

"A minimum-wage increase -- one of Democrats' long-standing legislative priorities -- was passed along with the bill, raising it to $7.25 an hour from its current rate of $5.15 over a period of two years. To offset the increased costs, tax breaks for small businesses were included in the bill."...
