'Republican governors target public employee unions'...LA Times recap of...
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 09:32 PM by YvonneCa
...Republican Governors' Assn. meeting in San Diego:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-republican-governors-20101119,0,7042324.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latimes%2Fnews%2Fnationworld%2Fnation+%28L.A.+Times+-+National+News%29

According to Pawlenty: "Public employees are 'over-benefited and overpaid' "

Could the truth be that our benefits and pay were fine until the GOP economic policies trashed the U.S. economy? :sarcasm:

As a Californian, I particularly liked this paragraph:

Schwarzenegger's no-show status and Republican candidate Meg Whitman's loss to Jerry Brown in the California governor's race is something of an embarrassment here. The colorful banner in the main ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront that highlights the names of states that will have Republican governors come January does not include California.

As a 40+ year San Diego resident, I'd have to say I'm not embarrassed at all! :7

1. "Overbenefited and overpaid"--or, they were paid a middle-class-sustaining wage

and had good health insurance. I love how Republicans try to make us resentful and jealous of people who are lucky enough to get what we should ALL be getting. Whatever you do, keep the little folks busy pecking at each other like chickens instead of letting them get mad at stagnant or falling wages and shitty benefits.

2. In other words, business as usual
Too bad those governors can't just wave a magic wand and take all those negotiated benefits and pay. It's real tough when you have to actually bargain with the union instead of dictating terms.
