It's Insurance Open Enrollment time at work
People are turning in their forms to me. You would not believe how many spewing "ObamaCare Socialism" haters are putting their 18-25 year-old kids on their insurance.

It's very hard not to say something. So I've been saying, "oh thank goodness for the new health care laws, eh?" and smile.

Interesting.

5. I'd lose my job if I said what I wanted to say
I had to find a response that made the point in a benign way, you know?

It is really hard to believe how incredibly ignorant this nation is. On the second thought maybe it the tone of his skin.

6. CIGNA makes it's employees take a health assessment before
they will cover medical insurance. Isn't that illegal considering there is a ban on pre existing conditions?

7. No.
Because there is nothing in the law that controls how much they can charge, as long as it meets a rather ill-defined percentage of cost.

Expect to see more companies demanding assessments, so they can determine how to squeeze extra premium dollars from those they cover.

8. The thing people don't like about this law is the mandate...
They ignore all the good things in the new law and focus on the mandate, people don't mind getting something that helps them from the government, but when the government forces them to do something that's another story. That's why, even IF (and that's an IF with a big question mark) the mandate has the desired effect of reducing the overall cost for health insurance people will hate it because the government is forcing them to do something. If we ever get a chance to re-work healthcare again it needs to really be "Medicare for all" and to hell with the Lie-bermans, Baucuses, and Nelsons of the world. One of our corporate officers said he's opposed to government run healthcare and socialized medicine "like Canada and France", but when I asked if he would be ok with allowing people to buy into Medicare he didn't have a problem with that. Medicare is a system everyone is comfortable with.
