9. Built up the road, some of them...
....in their Norway stitchery. Keeps people I know in employment. Their website makes it pretty easy to tell which is which.

Thank you, and keep trying.

You CAN still find ones made in the US....but you have to check.
New balance has always been my choice because of my beautiful "Fred Flintstone" feet...they have the most comfortable shoes for working out.

I'm glad you found some...

30. Some people have an interesting combination...
of a mild persecution complex coupled with a tendency toward engaging in conspiracy theories, and they think that the ONLY possible reason their precious, precious thread could have gotten an unrec is because Darth Cheney himself ordered his minions onto the Internet to take it down because of the threat it posed to the Bush Family Evil Empire.

34. to be fair I unrec'd it myself, just to see if I'd get an option.
Doesn't even let you know, and it doesn't let you pull your unrec back either. Oh well.

12. Made WHERE in the "USA" and under what conditions? This is important.
Sadly, the much merchandise (particularly clothing) with "Made in the USA" labels are made in the Marianas Islands, which is technically the US but follows no labor laws that we would recognize. Items made in the Marianas Islands are often made by female sweatshop workers (who, in one incident I read about, have to show their bosses their dirty maxipads once a month to prove their not pregnant.)

Hopefully these were REALLY made in the US under the conditions that's supposed to really stand for. If so, heck yeah. If under a union label, all the better.

16. Look at their web site
http://www.newbalance.com/USA/#/factories
Maine and Massachusetts

Made or Assembled in America

Twenty-five percent of New Balance shoes sold in North America are produced by our US workforce using US and imported materials. When possible, we obtain materials from domestic suppliers. At times, due to availability, economic or quality reasons, there is a need to import components from foreign sources. Where the domestic value is at least 70%, we have labeled the shoe "Made in the USA." Where it falls below 70%, we have qualified the label referencing domestic and imported materials. This determination is based in part on the Federal trade Commission's survey of consumers.

They're not union, but they pay about $16.50/hr w/bennies, and they don't do piecework.

22. They are an honorable company
ALL of the shoes they provide for NASCAR and most other Domestic racing series are ALL made in the USA. I saw a profile of them on Speed a while ago and that's when I started searching them out or buying on line.

28. From Wikipedia
New Balance owns five factories in the United States: two in Massachusetts (Boston and Lawrence), and three in Maine (Norridgewock, Skowhegan, and Norway).<5>

New Balance are the only shoes that run wide enough for me. I do find that I have to replace them once a year though...

I've stuck with them simply because they fit and aren't too flashy.

I got a wide 4e width for stability, works like a charm. I look at Amazon from time to time to find some bargains.

27. That's pretty much all I wear - just wish they'd stick with a model number for a lot longer
Every time I go in the store looking for another pair of 471s (or whatever worked last time) I find that it's discontinued. And when I work out what the successor model is I often find that they've changed the color to something horrible...

31. With you on that one.
I used to wear the 925s, which they had for a couple of years until they replaced it with the 926, which was fine but not as good. And now the 926 is being phased out for the 927. Pity.
