Eric Cantor is a traitor

http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/...

Soon-to-be GOP House Majority Leader Eric Cantor met on Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- the same day when the actual U.S. Secretary of State met with Netanyahu -- and vowed that he and his GOP colleagues would protect and defend Israeli interests against his own Government.

So extraordinary is Cantor's pledge that even the Jewish Telegraph Agency's Ron Kampeas -- himself a reflexive American defender of most things Israel -- was astonished, and wrote:

I can't remember an opposition leader telling a foreign leader, in a personal meeting, that he would side, as a policy, with that leader against the president. Certainly, in statements on one specific issue or another -- building in Jerusalem, or somesuch -- lawmakers have taken the sides of other nations. But to have-a-face to face and say, in general, we will take your side against the White House -- that sounds to me extraordinary.

Last August, Cantor led a GOP delegation to Israel and while in Jerusalem -- which happens to be "foreign soil" -- he condemned his own President and American policy for opposing the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Criticizing America while on Dreaded Foreign Soil is supposed to be one of the most extreme taboos in American politics: Al Gore was bitterly denounced as a borderline-traitor for a 2006 speech in Saudi Arabia criticizing American foreign policy, and Gore at the time was merely a private citizen, not a leading political official. But American political figures like Cantor feel free to do exactly that -- criticize America on foreign soil -- when it comes to Israel; recall the same thing being done by by Mike Huckabee.

war crimes and treason under Bushco, punks like Cantor would not be this brazen.

5. You need to read up on the Constitution and the REAL definition
of Treason - this ain't it and ain't even close. The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort.

And defining Israel as an ENEMY of the United States isn't a great way to lock up the base, unless you're trying to add numbers to the Repugs. And that would make you what, one of their secret operatives?

18. Anyone who says Cantor's statements to Israel amount to Treason
The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort.

Cantor clearly isn't levying war in any sense of the word - so the only reasonable conclusion one could make for a charge of Treason is that he's adhering to the enemies of the United States, giving them aid or comfort.

The only country being "aided or comforted" was Israel. So for his act to be Treason, Israel has to be the Enemy of the United States. Nor my designation, but that of anyone characterizing Cantor as a Traitor.

QED

Perhaps dumb asses should knock off all this Treason crap. It's used on DU for anything more serious than double parking and has reached the point that the 1st to cry "Traitor" automatically loses by the same default as those who cry "Hitler."

Let's see, it was our Secretary of State who said:

"I'm sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we're Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration."

I suppose some morons think she's a Traitor too.

You want a real traitor? Here's the wiki link for Anwar al-Awlaki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anwar_al-Awlaki

He has the distinction of being on both President Obama's capture/kill list and the Yemeni Judiciary's capture "dead or alive" list.

Sort of having the death penalty in two star systems. (Sorry Mr. Lucas)

6. When I see the same level of objection over US congresscritter meddling in Cuba,
I won't call a thread like this hypocritical.

As it is now, there's PLENTY of DUers who support US congress influence in the attempt to overthrow the government of Cuba - a country that has never done any harm to the USA.

There are some principled congresscritters who feel that the US pouring billions of US taxpayer dollars into undermining with intent to overthrow a foreign sovereign government is wrong. Why? Because it is wrong.

7. Check out the Logan Act
what Cantor did is a FELONY!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan_Act

The Logan Act is a United States federal law that forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. It was passed in 1799 and last amended in 1994. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years.

The text of the Act is broad and is addressed at any attempt of a US citizen to conduct foreign relations without authority. However, there is no record of any convictions or even prosecutions under the Logan Act.<1><2>

25. It was brought up more than once concerning the activities of Jesse Jackson
and others who have "negotiated" for the release of various improperly (to us) detained Americans. The Logan knife cuts both ways but not very effectively because nobody has ever been convicted of violating it (or maybe even charged athough I don't know for sure from memory)

(Fox 'News'/Talk Radio/'Think' tanks) if Steny Hoyer pulled this in 2006.

Instead, Monday, the propagandists will be spinning that Cantor is a true patriot protecting 'Merica from the scourge of the Socialist Fascist Muslim (some say may be on the Al-Queda board of directors) Obama by enlisting like-minded allies.

30. Sedition, treason, traitor, violating the
Logan Act, what's the difference?

He accused her of undermining the U.S. Government.

Is there supposed to be comfort in the fact all he accused her of is a felony, when he turns around and does the very thing he bogusly accused her of doing?
