Caught on tape: Alito says his fundraising for conservative causes 'not important'
Supreme Court Justice Alito: My fundraising for conservative causes is ‘not important’

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Anthony Alito, Jr. said his involvement with a conservative fundraiser was "not important" after being confronted by a Think Progress blogger Tuesday night.

At a fundraising event for the a right-wing magazine American Spectator, Lee Fang of Think Progress asked Alito why he thought it was appropriate to attend such a highly political fundraiser.

"It's not important that I'm here," Alito reportedly told Fang.

"You also helped headline this same event two years ago, obviously helping to raise political money as the keynote," Fang shot back, only to receive the same response from Alito before he walked away. "It's not important."

1. I am beginning to think we need a king, or a dictator, perhaps. It
would be easier to throw bums like Alito out on their well-padded rears. His envolvement with political parties is against the established Judges Code of Conduct. And it is important.

2. They don't care if what they do is unethical, they do so with
impunity because they know no one will do anything about it. We have cowards in the House and Senate and our Constitution is just a piece of paper for them to wipe their corrupt asses on. In any country that lives by the rule of law, they would have been impeached.......period. But, we just need to move on, or so I've been told by Ms. Pelosi and President Obama. FTS.

6. This kind of stuff makes me ill.
I think it may be time to curb the judiciary to make it a judiciary instead of a PAC in black robes.

7. He needs to be impeached. Now.
The Democrats should do it in the lame duck session.

(Yeah, that'll happen)

You need to let elected Democrats focus on things that matter- centrist things.

Fighting for justice and exposing coruption will do nothing but enrage swing voters to oppose us.

I guess some farlefts will never learn...

Why do you want to make us look WEAK?

15. You dare suggest that a centrist on DU is not making sincere arguments?
Beyond the pale.

This perception is very unfair and without basis.

Just b/c we say we agree with what ever conservative swing voters say they agree with does not mean we are not sincere about it.

16. Sorry, it's just cuz I hate Democrats soooo much. I can't help myself.
I only advocate progressive principles because I secretly want Democrats to lose. And look how successful we've been! The Professional Left convinced Obama to be a socialist and the Dems lost the House because of it!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

8. So...if it's not important, why go?
It's time for term limits for SCOTUS.. They have moved WAAAAAY past non-partisan.

The whole rationale for lifetime appointments was to REMOVE them from the political arena.

11. Great. Next thing you know, all you farlefts will be expecting us centrists to fight or expose this.
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 04:01 PM by Dr Fate
Greeeeat. Let me guess- you want another pony? Well you are not going to get one.

Look, dont you far lefts realize that bringing up all this stuff makes us look like far left protesters?

Plus, if we talk too much about it, then the far lefts will be mad at us when we refuse to do anything about it. They dont understand pragmatism.

Dont you guys know anything about STRATEGY?

My advice to the far left is to drop this. Us centrists are not interested in fighting for you on this. Swing voters dont care about this stuff- the last election proves that.

Dont believe me? Just turn on your TV right now and watch for all the elected DEMS who are talking about it. Dont see any? Right? Got the message now?

And dont wait for Obama to bring this up either- that is NOT the job of the Presdient, and he does not have the power to stop it even if he could. What do you want him to do, dive down into the ocean and stop Alito himself?

We need to be talking about stuff that elected DEMS are willing to fight for-centrist stuff- not the the far left stuff that we need to let them ignore.

Saying DEMS need to fight this when we know they will not makes us look weak. Voters dont like weaklings.

LET the centrists & elected DEMS ignore this. Stop saying that elected DEMS need to do something about this.

Drop this or you will have no one but farlefts to blame for your disappointments.

Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 12:41 AM by cynatnite
For the most part I am completely against impeaching judges unless they commit a crime or violate their judicial oaths.

I find what happened in Iowa sickening and disturbing. It poisons the impartiality of the bench. That's why I'm against it even when a ruling is counter to my opinions.

Judges, even those in Alito's position, should be barred from taking part in political causes. Their impartiality comes into question.

At the very least, they should recuse themelves from cases that involves their pet causes.
