MSNBC is hearing our message!
Within hours, you and 200,000 others signed the petition telling MSNBC to put Keith Olbermann back on the air.

Our petition was covered by The New York Times -- and Rachel Maddow said on her show that MSNBC was feeling the public outrage!

Our pressure is working -- can you help continue the momentum by sharing the petition with others?

If you're on Facebook, http://act.boldprogressives.org/go/2408?akid=2659.758694.3src8Q&t=1

If you're on Twitter, click to auto-Tweet: http://act.boldprogressives.org/go/2419?akid=2659.758694.3src8Q&t=2

Or just pass along this email to others -- http://act.boldprogressives.org/go/2420?akid=2659.758694.3src8Q&t=3

Thanks for being a bold progressive,

-- Julia Rosen, Jason Rosenbaum, Michael Snook, and the PCCC team

82. There are no boots on the ground. Why no candlelight vigil for Keith every night at Rock Center?

If they canned Glenn Beck (also at Rockefeller Center like Olbermann) there would be nightly candlelight vigils, placards, protests there.

However, progressives are "forbidden" to take to the streets and sidewalks....

•••The Phil Griffin (who fired Keith) gratitude thread. Stop the candlelight vigil at Rock Ctr!•••

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9503213

There are 19 million people in the Tri-State New York Metropolitan Area, a great many of whom work in the city and most of them are progressive. They could show up in droves every night on their way home from work on the subway with candles at Rockefeller Center. Night after night. Without even missing a day of work. Rockefeller Center actually has its very own subway station, accessible by subway to every spot in New York City, all 5 boros. (Even Staten Islanders can be there, after a short Ferry ride that is FREE. Or by subway from their Manhattan jobs BEFORE they head to the Staten Island Ferry.)

The attack on Keith is like the GOP taking over Congress TWICE.

But people don't head to Rock Center because progressives have forgotten how to take to the streets.

We're all supposed to be good little boys and girls and let the fascists and corporatists take over Congress and the media without a fight.

•8 million New Yorkers.
•19 million total in the metropolitan region.
•Largest city in America.
•Biggest progressive center in the country.
•Dems just won the key statewide races in the state.

But no boots on the ground.
No candlelight vigil.
No nothing at Rockefeller Center.

Millions of New Yorkers love Keith. If they can't head to Rock Center every night on their way home on the subway, don't blame it on someone else.

Progressives simply don't take to the streets anymore.

91. New York City Subway Map -----

http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf

Rockefeller Center subway station smack dab in the middle, accessible from every one of the 468 stations in the city with free underground transfers. Biggest subway system on earth.

Subway ride: $2.25 to anywhere in the city, no restrictions.

Where are all the people? Where are all the YOUNG people?

Busy bitching and moaning that the GOP took over Congress while they were busy staying home playing checkers.

There is power in numbers
Let's take this as a lesson. Can 250k of us hit DC with a single purpose, one issue to make our point. Add street theater, signs that are spelling correctly ;) no violence or at least give it our best shot.

This is what Democracy looks like. Remember that slogan - wasn't too long ago.

14. "Suspended indefinitely" is legal terminology that allows for withholding of pay outlined by his
contract.

If the network fired KO, they would have to pay him as outlined by his contract. Indefinite suspension keeps KO in limbo in terms of pay, ability to find work with another network, etc. until whatever it is that they're negotiating (terms of contract?) is complete.

Can't say fired because you have to pay the rest of the contract. Basically, it means fired. However, I think you'll find sometime early next week that a certain Phil Griffin is the one who is fired and Olbermann will be back on the air.

Both him and comcast have had their pawns out there ready for the fight. You go Keith Olbermann. Go. <That's so unreal for this uneffing believeable $hit that's exploding now. construct some kind of a super mainframe comupter that the people use to directly vote for/against what they want and the politicians, lobbyists, etc. have absolutely no access to power anymore because it won't be concentrated in an 8 square mile district on the east coast anymore, can't be bought because there is no one to buy, but power is fanned out to every eligible citizen out there, like it should be.

Maybe.... we have to figure a way to televize graphic visuals of US troops either dead or wounded. Not all dressed in their burial garb, or nice white bandages, but with guts dangling and blood oozing. Accompanied with the screams of agony as narrative.

Not "respectful" of their woes or their families? What the hell was respectful about standing them up as shrapnel absorbers??? Let's show "the people" what we're borrowing from foreign banks to perpetrate in the name of "winning".

So,,,,you're going to sign a petition for something to happen that's going to happen, anyway? For what reason? So you can try to say that your petition caused the event to happen?

He's suspended. Not fired. He's coming back sooner rather than later.

I would think there are more important things to sign a petition about than something that's going to happen soon anyway.

80. And it takes how long
to sign this on-line petition? One of the outcomes of more that one quarter of a million signatures may be to show the management that Phil Griffin amy be told he should not react as rashly in the future. It will also reassure KO about how his fans feel about the job he has done.

84. Phil Donohue had the #1 show too.
They got rid of him in the blink of an eye. They will be looking at ratings to see how many they lose in that time slot. I didn't watch the time slot but I did watch Maddow.

I'm surprised when there are so many more important things you could be doing with your time.

94. So was Phil Donahue's show
...who had the highest ratings on cable ~ but that did not stop MSNBC from making it permanent. This was because Phil had the audacity to oppose the war, when in fact we all know now he was right.

70. If those 200,000 each gave $20, they could pay Keith's salary.
That would put him back on the air.

(Paraphrased) Are you guys just looking for a business tax deduction on the loss, or are you REALLY stupid enough to alienate this many viewers?

89. It's a misleading headline.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 02:26 PM by calimary
We don't know that they're REALLY hearing our message, and we won't until/unless Keith comes back on the air - or the network brass gathers up its collective "courage" to explain why he's been banished for good (IF that's what winds up being true). Unfortunately they could indeed be "hearing our message" and deciding the proper response is - "go fuck yourselves".

THAT DOES NOT MEAN that we shouldn't keep applying pressure, though. Stranger things have happened.

92. MSNBC and Air America
Don't even think that we don't know where the OFF switch is. You can be the next AA

Rachel will get picked up by another station but MSNBC will just be a Fox clone with their head up Ruperts arse. The ratings somewhere around the Fox business channel.

MSNBC, tonights, WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD!

Come on, you punished him for the "infraction", not put him back to work Monday. And in the future, try a private reprimand, it might make your life easier. Oh, and please, when you put him back on the air, provide him with proof that he can share with his audience that Joe Scarbrough got prior permission to donate to republican candidates.
