Bush: If I Hadn't Quit Drinking, 'I Really Am Convinced' I Wouldn't Have Been President

<snip>

The dribbling out of excerpts and interview clips continues as former President George W. Bush re-emerges to promote his book, Decision Points. In the latest round of pre-release strategic leaks, Bush says he was able to quit drinking cold turkey at age 40 because he was never "chemically addicted."

The book reportedly opens with Bush's decision to quit drinking. In his interview with Matt Lauer, which airs in its entirety on Monday, Bush said alcohol had become a "love" that "began to compete" with his love for his wife and daughters.

"I was a drinker. Now I wasn't a knee-walkin' drunk. And I have concluded I was not chemically addicted, like some of my friends were, who required a 12-step program for some," he said.

"Nevertheless, in either case, alcohol becomes central to your life," he went on. "And I finally woke up and realized that I did not want to live a life where alcohol was central. And I'm convinced, I really am convinced, had I not quit drinking, I wouldn't be sitting here as a former President. Because I chronicle a few incidents where alcohol made my quick tongue, not only quick, but caused me to be stupid."

And likewise George, if you hadn't been President, you wouldn't have caused so many people to drink.

:shrug:

1. So one case of alcoholism -- if left untreated -- could have saved America?

4. So let me see now
The man was a moron, couldn't but two sentences together, and he is trying to say he "could" have been worse? I doubt it, just like I really doubt the man ever stopped drinking. I have been clean and sober for 25 years now, I have worked with many other alcoholics, and the signs were there that he was drinking most of his presidency! Nice try George, but you would be "stupid" even you were sober, or a drunk!

5. If you hadn't been born with a silver spoon up your ass
you'd be paint department manager at Walmart.

It wasn't your sobriety or your smarts that got you the job, you fucking pinhead.

16. Paint department manager at Walmart? Idolator!
My guess would have been that were it not for the royal family lottery, George W. Bush would have earned his living wearing a paper hat and asking people if they wanted fries with that, or wearing a smelly set of overalls and asking regular or supreme.

13. That and my decision to be George H. W. Bush's son...
...were key. Had I not decided to be born when I was, had I not chosen that particular father, I just know I would never have made it," continued Bush.
