Crazy Jean Schmidt talks to 6-year-olds about abortion, principal apologizes to parents

A Republican Congresswoman shocked teachers and students alike this month when she decided to talk about abortion to a classroom of 6-year-olds.

Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) ventured into the age-inappropriate territory during a speech at a Cincinnati Catholic school, where she addressed a room of students ranging from first to eighth graders.

"Unexpectedly, towards the end of her address, Congresswoman Schmidt brought up the topic of abortion," Prinicipal Dan Teller wrote in a letter to parents, obtained by Cincinnati's WLWT.com. "Your children may come home with questions, especially if this is a topic that has not been broached in your home."...

“She defined abortion as the taking of a child's life in the mother's womb,” Teller wrote in the letter. "She indicated that abortion involves the killing of a child before it is born."

Noting that Schmidt "was not invited to further any political agenda,” he apologized to parents "for any confusion or fear that this may elicit on the part of your child, and for the awkward position this may put you in of introducing a difficult issue at a time that may be premature for you."

5. wtf! that is not appropriate conversation for 6 year olds! first of all,
i don't know any 6 year olds that would actually ASK about such a thing. and my policy is to answer questions that are asked by a child and when I do it is an answer that is appropriate for that age.

7. First grade does seem a bit early for that sort of
chat.

What a treat for voters in her district to have a U.S. Rep who slanders war veterans on the floor of the House of Representatives and who now admonishes 6-year olds on the evils of abortion.

8. Well Cincy/Ohio is 'governed' by retired U-Boat Captains
You can tell they have been running things too, awful infrastructure and a filthy city. They are mean too. Their politics have crossed the Ohio River into Northern Kentucky as well.

9. Catholic school this is NBD
They children hear prayers all the time against abortion. Like it or not, it is just the way of the world.

At a public school would be an issue, but I don't see see one hear that the parents can make. They hae opted to expose their children to this.

12. Reminds me of a few years ago when Shellie Capato sent out
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 08:07 AM by Hubert Flottz
pictures of aborted babies in her campaign ad and my little seven year old grandson picked up my mail for me...It was a very unhappy time for the child. A child who wouldn't be able to vote or sleep well, for a very long time after that election.

All that is important to a republican is winning, no matter who it hurts.

14. They had Jean Schmidt as a speaker
and they're surprised she brought up an inappropriate issue? Was whoever invited her there in the first place familiar with her because I'm 2,000 miles away and even *I* knew about this nutcase.

15. my 7, 8 yr old read a bumpersticker saying, dont kill babies. he was on board.
he really really did not think it was right that we were killing babies.

just all kinds of wrong. but we really dont give a shit as so many people, with so many issues, will snarkily say... "what about the children". if the issue is something a person holds, it is "fuck the children".
