It's really looking scary for Feingold
RealClearPolitics poll average shows his opponent as winning over 50%. It is only data on 3 polls: Rasmussen, McClatchy, and even PPP, which is the Democratic polling firm. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/senate/wi/wisconsin_senate_feingold_vs_johnson-1577.html#polls

he was planning to campaign for him, but backed out when his polls dropped further. :(

5. What kind of reasoning is that?
That's when someone needs help the most. I think it's another case of letting the progressives go.

It was to be today, and I guess he's overextended.

I know. I hate to say it, but as time goes by it just gets worse and worse.

29. sabrina, as I look around on google,
it appears to be more a case of Obama not being well recieved in the state at this point.
He may have been asked to skip Wisc.

32. lol - Feingold did everything he could to avoid being seen with Obama!
"Feingold defies predictions, joins Obama at rally
By Elise Viebeck - 09/28/10 04:57 PM ET

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wisc.) tweeted Tuesday afternoon that he had "made it" to Wisconsin and will attend a rally in Madison where President Obama will speak to thousands of college students.

"Great day to be in Wisconsin!" Feingold said. "Finished voting and am proud to join President Obama at my alma mater."

The senator had originally said he would be in Washington Tuesday afternoon, prompting observers to wonder whether he was avoiding appearing with Obama because of his fragile position seven points behind GOP challenger Ron Johnson.

Ahh, but I see the "blame Obama" meme developing as I read this. Hate him until he's "needed", then blame him for not being there, even though he's made it clear he doesn't need Obama's help.

34. Ahhhh the wise Mr. Moran.
a report (from today, not a month ago) comes in, we discuss it, and work it out further down the thread, but you feel the need to jump to the top with info that was already worked out further below, and add horseshit about hate and what you perceive to be motivations.

Ahhhh, so very wise.

I didn't want to kick this thread but neither do I want your stunt to stand unchallenged.

35. What on earth are you talking about?
I saw a post that was BS and responded to it. I later saw that it was discussed by others below - doesn't make the truth of my post any less relevant nor does it make my prediction of the impending meme any less likely to occur (it will be revisited after his loss - trust me.)

Your post is quite nasty and uncalled for.

19. The president campaigned 2 weeks prior in Madison, a very
well attended event. Feingold was there and drew praise from the president.

There is no evidence to suggest that this White House has given up on Senator Feingold. The president's legislative agenda and the general climate he is shooting for will be made far more difficult if Ron Johnson is elected than it would ever be if Wisconsin voters re-elect Russ.

36. I Think Feingold will Win. He Has "Butted" Heads With Obama
on some issues, like Afghanistan for example. Obama doesn't reward people who resist. I saw Feingold at a town hall meeting in April, and he discussed this. I got the distinct impression Feingold and Obama aren't buddies. Feingold is "too much of a liberal" for Obama, if there is such a thing.
As for me, a politician can never be liberal enough.

44. Why do you think Feingold will win?
He has gone from winning in polls in June to his opponent winning over 50%. Typically winning over 50% in polls means it is a pretty safe win.

calling people on his behalf. But he needs that effort to continue until Tuesday.

Is the Party helping him at all?

He is one of the best we have in the Senate. This would be a real tragedy if he were to lose.

The coordinated campaign is planning 28,000 GOTV canvassing shifts and a million phone calls this weekend. And to answer the question about weather, in the Dem strongholds of Milwaukee and Madison, it will be clear and in the 50s through election day. This is NOT over yet.

6. It is scary for the whole country. Some can delude themselves, but it is going to be bad on Tuesday
and worse than that, the redistricting that will recur as a result of the election will insure that the country will most likely stay hard right for quite a while

I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so

20. I hate it when states that generally know better decide to
let a wingnut in. I went to WI and did campaign work back in '04 and found it intriguing that the same state that only narrowly voted for Kerry reelected Feingold by a 10-percent margin. I just don't get it what's up this round. Johnson seems like a completely unremarkable right-wing ideologue; pretty similar to the guy that challenged Feingold back them- so why is WI turning against Feingold this year? The only explanation I have is that emboldened right-wingers and clueless "both sides are equally bad, so I'm going to be 'above the fray' and give the R's a chance this time" independents working together can really do some damage.

Still got my fingers crossed that a great GOTV effort will pull this off for Feingold, but who really knows at this point? I've given him more money than I can really afford, but he *is* my favorite Senator.

Coming from Texas, I have no room to talk, but Wisconsin is really pissing me off right now...

45. it makes historical sense for Democrats to lose seats
In a midterm election after a Democrat became President. Feingold has never faced a midterm Senate election when a Democratic President was just elected 2 years earlier.

24. The problem is that the base is unmotivated
Wisconsin has one of the largest enthusiasm gaps in the country. MoveOn raised half a million for GOTV efforts for Feingold, but Feingold said he didn't want any help from outside groups helping him, and made some comment about MoveOn being "extreme" or something.

Feingold's just trying to stick to his principles of campaign finance reform, but his rigid adherence to ideals is getting in the way of the practicality of getting re-elected.

Maybe purity will indeed end it. Sad all around, BUT once again...the only poll that counts is Tuesday.

Dems just need to GOTV round the clock there, and make clear what the state will be losing.

I love wisconsin, I would have moved there if I could have.
