Ed Shouts
Will someone please tell Ed Schultz to QUIT BELLOWING and ask the progressive radio bigwigs why they inflict on a NATIONWIDE audience a blustering, shouting, good ole boy who yells at his audience like he's at a drunken weenie roast and can't hear for the earflaps on his hat?

I've heard Ed Schultz's actual VOICE when he plays a commercial he's done or a clip from a TV talk show he was on. He drops the BUBBA slap-ya-on-the-back act and talks as if he's in a conversation-- not a HAR De Har HAR bull session.

Listening to Thom Hartmann's excellent broadcasts in the morning at work are sorely missed, after a shakeup in local "progressive" radio. "Where America comes to talk" and listen to Ed bellow may work for part of the national market but there are a lot of us who don't need to be yelled at to get the point.

Never thought anything could make me listen to Lush Windbag, but the habit of listening to Hartmann and the coldness of National Pretentious Radio has me turning the dial over to the Excrement In Broadcasting Network. Windbag sounds absolutely mellow compared to Ed Shouts and it is entertaining to listen to how Windbag lies. He's gotten so good at it after 2 decades that it almost seems like he believes his own schtick.

When I did switch over to Ed today, he was talking about fishing for WAaaaaYyyyyy too long and when I checked in later he was talking about some BALL game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 He's a SPORTS DJ acting like his audience and his macho persona is still the same. Anyone notice how few women call in to the show?

Come ON, Progressive Radio Gods. This is a national audience. Let the guys and the bubbas and the sportsmen and the good ole boys have their time but DON'T pretend that this is all there is to the real heart of America.

You are driving away listeners who don't buy the act and don't want to be bellowed at.

1. It is not the bellowing that bothers me - it is his complete ignorance.
He is never prepared and does not know the issues. He is just a first impression quick reacting bully boy. Reminds me of the dumb jocks in my high school. Always talking and never saying anything important or thought through.

5. Well, there's that
The bluster covers up the questionable "progressive" cred.

The reason I try to listen is he does get interviews with Congress members and touches on the topics of the day. The approach though is unconvincing-- not progressive................. yer right. Thread over.

:hi:

Yer right.

3. I love him.
He's the best thing that's happened to progressive radio. Ed's the only guy who can increase the base because he talks to people who never thought they could be liberal or Dems, and he provides the most convincing path to their conversion. They listen to him and if it takes football and fishing talk to convince them to join the party, then I'm all for it.

Why do you want someone who preaches predictably to the choir? What does that accomplish?

7. I don't care for Ed's show, but I agree with you
he gets to a demographic that none of the other liberal talk shows can reach.

8. What I said was WE DON'T WANT SOMEONE WHO BELLOWS TO MAKE A POINT
"Why do you want someone who preaches predictably to the choir? What does that accomplish?"

That's BS. That's not at all what I said. AND I said, let the Bubbas have their time but DON"T act like this is ALL there is to the real heart of America.

It's a cliche. I don't buy that he even buys it. Esp. as I have heard the "normal" broadcasting voice he uses when he really wants to reach a broader audience.

"Ed's the only guy who can increase the base because he talks to people who never thought they could be liberal or Dems, and he provides the most convincing path to their conversion."

That may be-- but then it's a specialty niche, it's an enabling routine for "people who never thought they could be liberal or Dems." That's just fine. But it is not "progressive" and it is not "Where America comes to talk." It is repellant to people who don't need a Bubba act and a shouting host to listen to the ideas and give 'em a go.

10. I listened to part of his show on immigration last week - he was
not prepared. The issue/problem is too complex for him to manage. Same is true about vote and voter issues. Same is true about impeachment. Same is true about the Iraq War.

Perhaps he should listen to Randi before he tries to do a topic. On the other hand, I know he won't because he is just plain ole ordinary everyday garden variety lazy - with a big ego that bares no relation to his abilities.

11. We're being told
that's the demographic it's important to draw into the fold:

"...............he is just plain ole ordinary everyday garden variety lazy - with a big ego that bares no relation to his abilities."

"People who never thought" until they had someone to tell them what to think, about liberal or Democratic issues.

I don't quite buy his act and I definitely don't buy that that is the heart of America OR the only approach/voice of the Salt 'O The Earth.

It's a big country.

And the regular folk ain't dumb. Or all redneck macho shouters.

15. The guy couldn't even spell Thom Hartmann. Ed is clueless. That's my problem with him. He knows

absolutely nothing. He may as well be in Congress, because he is just as naive as most of those idiots are. Don't you dare say anything about Building 7 on his show. You are a "looney," even if he saw the video. The 9/11 Commission is gospel. The guy always takes the official line, which is what pisses me off. I can't listen to him for too long without wanting to call his show and tell him how stupid he is. I need something intellectual, some information. Why should I listen to his show and just get the regurgitated story from Washington?

Ed is a sell out. He doesn't want to lose "access," so he toes the line so that he can keep the Washington insiders coming on his show, unlike Thom Hartmann who tells it like it is, and is avoided by the power brokers in DC.

I'd rather get the real information than hear Charlie Rangel's stupid voice like he's going to tell me anything I don't already know. Nothing he says can justify half of the crap that they do, and that includes Harry Reid as well. If you think anything a Democrat says is gospel, then I'm sure that you love Ed Shultz's show, but if you want the truth, even if it means calling out Democrats as well, because there are many of them who are just as worse as the Republicans on most issues, then you listen to someone else.

It's about the "worldview," not the party. Yes, the parties as a whole tend to lean towards a liberal or conservative worldview, but if the Rahm Emanuels and Rangels of the world are going to pass the same trade deals that the Republicans would have passed, then they are just as stupid as Newt Gingrich is.

6. There are ways of getting Thom if you can't stream.
His broadcast is repeated every three hours until the next day at White Ros Society. I used to use a web recorder to record it and listen on my computer at work. Also, the show is uploaded to a usenet group where you can download it at alt.binaries.radio (use a newsgroup reader such as Outlook Express).

9. Find the smooth Jazz station in your area, that's what I do as soon as Thom signs off.
From noon-3pm I get smooth sounds then Rachel comes on.
Tried listening to Ed when he first got slotted after Thom - longest 9 hours of my entire life. Haven't been back. The AA people apparently don't care if they lose listeners so I don't either.
