Have no doubts. May all the tea party candidates across the nation get the humiliation that is coming to Carl Paladino on election day. :toast:

117. Deservedly so!
I just got polled on Cuomo/Paladino, and said Paladino had no chance. They presented a "recent" poll that showed Cuomo at 53% and Paladino at 47%...then they asked me if I wanted to change my mind about my estimate (Cuomo 62-Paladino 38) and I kind of went off on them. I work the elections downstate and Paladino didn't get 38% in the primary! Of course, back in the day I snarked that Reagan had a no chance back either.... Go California!

I still always vote D except in county (local) have voted Green.

There is no other choice but D. I am glad to vote for Brown (though I am surprised we disagree on some issues now more than years ago) and Boxer.

but now I think - BUT

I don't just want to SEE it, I want to actively help make it happen

and then there is the other goal

not just to have Democrats win, but to first have progressive Democrats win in a primary, much like Lamont over Lieberman, and Sestak over Spectre.

23. Really?
I'm on Democratic Underground because I want to see:

*Medicare for anyone who wants it

*The IMMEDIATE reduction of Military Spending by AT LEAST 50%.

*The immediate break-up (Trust Busting) of everything "Too Big to Fail".

*Fair Competition Legislation that lets Mom&Pop (small locally owned businesses and farms) compete with Big Box and Factory Farms on a level playing field.

*An end to "Free Trade" (Race to the Bottom)

*Organized LABOR and local co-ops.

*An end to the two-tiered Judicial System

*Prosecution of rich American War Criminals and War Profiteers. (Oh yes they did!)

*An END to "Corporate Personhood"

*Strictly Enforced Publicly Financed Elections (severe penalties for criminals)

*Transparent and Verifiable elections (Why isn't this a front burner issue with the Democratic Party?)

*Re-Regulation with strict oversight of Banking/Investment, Transportation, Communications, Trade, Energy, Utilities, Insurance.

*NO Public Money for private Prisons, armed Private Police, armed Defense Contractors, private intelligence agencies or For Profit Health Insurance Corporations.

*Immediate Civil Rights and Equal Protection for ALL. (No Exceptions)

*Free Quality Universal Education to everyone who wants it.

*Strong Social Safety Net and Consumer Protections.

*An end to The Patriot Act and a return to The Constitution(especially Habeas and privacy protections).

*A refutation of the "Unitary Executive", and legislation to ensure it NEVER happens again.

*An END to Republican/Corporate influence INSIDE The Democratic Party !
(NO! They DON"T deserve a seat at the table!)

These are values I strongly believe in. I have fought for these values long before I ever heard the name "Obama", "triangulation", or "Centrist" Democrats. I will keep fighting for these values no matter who is in the White House.

It is an "Issues" thing, not a matter of Political Personalities.
When politicians move toward the above, I will support them.
When they move away, I will oppose them.
I don't expect to get everything, but I DO demand respect for these values, and a voice in the Party that is asking for my money and support.

"If we don't fight hard enough for the things we stand for,
at some point we have to recognize that we don't really stand for them."

Almost everything I listed used to be mainstream Democratic Party values.

But NOW?
Do ANY of the issues of values I listed really have a seat at the table anymore?

left-wing ideals and issues on a self-identified left-wing message board. If the Democratic Party wants to work towards left-wing goals, that's part of the discussion.

31. My feelings exactly
Political parties change over time. In the early days of the Republican Party (the party of Lincoln), the Republican Party was the left wing party (anti-slavery party) and the Democratic Party was the right wing (pro-slavery) party. That changed over time, so that the roles of the two parties were clearly switched by the FDR presidency.

Now the Democratic Party is veering rightwards. If too many people give them our unqualified support, without discussing what we perceive as their deficiencies, I believe that rightward turn will continue until the point where it makes little difference whether a Democrat or Republican is elected. In some races that is already the case. To give ALL Democrats our unqualified support regardless of how they behave is a recipe for disaster and an abrogation of our responsibility as voters and citizens IMO.

This: "To give ALL Democrats our unqualified support regardless of how they behave is a recipe for disaster and an abrogation of our responsibility as voters and citizens IMO."

In addition, anyone who wanted the Democratic Party to BE the left-wing party would hold the party accountable when they shift.

. . . it's because I care enough about the issues I advocate for to want to see them advance into action or law. The Democratic Party is currently the ONLY platform which brings my concerns far enough in our political system to be recognized - and hopefully, enacted.

The big fat "No Republicans Allowed" and "No Third Party Advocacy" rules didn't give you a clue?

Maybe you need to spend more time thinking.

Ask Russ Feingold. But if it were up to people like you, that refuse to use your heads and instead tow the party line, people like Feingold would never be allowed on here.

103. Did you have an argument that you made in that post? I missed it.
As far as understanding politics goes how do I get my head around someone that calls Eliot Spitzer the scum of the earth based on what he did but isn't willing to extend the same characterization to Bill Clinton?

106. If you offered up more than calling people you don't agree with stupid
there might be something to debate. However since that is not the case, all that can be done is inform you that you that the people you are insulting are a hell of a lot more intelligent than you believe them to be.

111. Right, because you obviously have much better things to do. Let me repeat my questions
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 07:58 PM by no limit
1) Why should I blindly follow party politics? Many times even our senators, such as Russ feingold, don't?

2) Why should I trust anyone that calls Eliot Spitzer dirty scum for what he did but thinks Bill Clinton is a cool guy?

Now again NJmaverick, I don't expect a reply from you, I finally know better. You ignore these questions all the time. But if you could just take a minute out of your extremely busy day of fighting on an internet message board I would really appreaciate an anwser. I won't hold my breath, but I do look forward to your reply if it ever comes. Thanks.

113. Ah finally you posted enough substance to expose the flaws in your thinking
1) No one told you to blindly follow anyone. That is a false talking point being pushed by the GOP to reduce support for the Dems. What you fail to understand is when you take down the Dems you take down Dems like Russ Feingold. The way you talk about Sen Feingold I am inclined to believe you don't know his voting record.

2) You need to learn the difference between breaking the law and breaking a marriage vow. Once that is understood that, you would smearing one of the greatest Presidents of the 20th century.

'I won't hold my breath, but I do look forward to your reply if it ever comes."

Interesting, do you ever get ANYTHING right? So far the answer is a resounding NO

114. I am honestly shocked, thank you for the reply. I hope we can keep this going
1) I am fully aware of Feingold's record. Many times he went against the president. Im sure I can find examples of you being upset with Feingld over that fact, right?

2) What do you define as integrity? Do you think a guy that cheats on his wife has integrity?

Again, I do look forward to your reply.

134. OK
1) Feingold voted with the President on every major accomplishment with the exception of Financial regulation. On financial regulation he sided with the Republicans and opposed increased regulation on the finance industry. I don't feel that is a good model to follow.

2) The key is to remember that a person's job performance and personal lives are two different matters. Spitzer's problem was in breaking the law. That brought his personal life into his public life and put his job in jeopardy.

115. Perhaps you shouldn't accuse people of not thinking and "towing the party line" in the same post.
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 08:36 PM by SemiCharmedQuark

Despite occasional disagreements, Feingold is a Democrat and doesn't hesitate to call himself such or lump himself in with the "team". This is a crucial point--you can disagree on singular issues and still be a loyal Dem overall because you have the ability to see the big picture.

But the Democrats have become more of a necessary evil than my party of choice.
I wish they would get up and fight for what they are supposed to stand for but alas, they seem satisfied to simply keep Republicans moderately at bay.

corrupt politicians deep into crony capitalism in the minority party or preferably out of office.

The overwhelming majority of these sorts are in the GOP.

They've definitely got folks out seeking to demoralize Democrats in order to depress our voter turn out. It's painfully obvious to anyone who can see remotely clearly.

An engaged voting population = a pain in the ass of crony capitalists. Surrendering your vote = abandoning what power you do have. They have the cash and we have the raw numbers.
