Shh! Don’t Tell The Media…But Something’s Happening Out There
from ARDem at Blue Arkansas: http://bluearkansasblog.com/?p=4357

October 18th, 2010

A few weeks ago, Joe Sestak, the real Democrat that beat Arlen Specter in the Pennsylvania Senate primary, was considered DOA. Pat Toomey had a commanding lead in the polls and a lot of people were writing it off as a Republican takeover. Remember, this was just a few weeks ago. Now though, the latest polls have Sestak surging into the lead, and there are two different polls finding the same results so we can establish a trend! That’s not all. A few weeks ago Joe Manchin was flailing in West Virginia. Now he’s opening up a double digit lead. On top of that, we have hot races in Kentucky and Alaska of all places, Harry Reid and Alexi Giannoulias seem to be hanging on in Nevada and Illinois, and not even Rasmussen can spin any more than a lead within the margin of error for Ken Buck out in Colorado. The numbers are there. Democrats are going to keep the Senate, even if we suffer some losses.

But that’s not all.

There’s evidence trickling in that the House isn’t a lost cause. Republicans need 39 seats to retake the chamber, but we’ve got a hand full of pickup opportunities to exploit in Hawaii, Washington, Delaware, and Florida. Even teabagger favorite Crazy-Michelle is looking vulnerable! Throw in that a lot of incumbents previously assumed to be vulnerable aren’t looking so bad now and we have a real hope of holding the House if we buckle down and get out the vote.

There are other signs that we’re making a comeback as well. In Ohio and Iowa, Democrats are greatly outnumbering Republicans in early voting. Not sure what that signifies, but there’s evidence in other states that Dems are making it out and that the enthusiasm gap may be gone. To top it off, Michael Steele and co have done us all a favor by pratically bankrupting the RNC, forcing Republicans to depend on corporate front groups to get their message out. That’s not to say that those groups won’t be formidable, but we’re going to have the better GOTV operation . . .

Things are looking much better for us now than they did just a few weeks ago. That’s not to say that everything’s going to work out perfectly for us, but by now the expectations of the media narrative are set so low for Democrats that all we have to do is survive. Republicans have to meet expectations. If they don’t, they lose.

5. the writer is echoing a number of sources
. . . who are seeing Democrats gaining (regaining) ground in key races . We definitely need more truth and perspective as we look at these contests.

4. After what happened to the reporter in Alaska, Joe Miller's campaign could suffer
And I heard that Miller won't be attending the debate tonight, either.

6. Whee! Linda McMahon just announced she won't give any more interviews.
Seems she didn't like the way her words have been "twisted." She's losing in double digits to Dick Blumenthal here in Ct.

I hope she enjoys that T shirt she had made up for her "victory" party!

16. Women prefer Richard 2:1
They do not like the product she made her fortune from.
The sexist programming of the WWE has come back to haunt her.

8. FOX News: " Keystone state ... race is neck to neck"!
It's official … we are the battleground state … for the first time … FOX News is reporting our race “neck to neck”!

FOX News:

“The polling in the Keystone state shows the race is neck to neck”.
And if you think this doesn't make a difference that FOX network (“FOX”) is reporting this information … it does!

Well … FOX -- with its cable chatter -- is out there “sounding the alarm” and rallying the extremists to Congressman Toomey by admitting this race is “dead-even”.

10. We are not going to lose either house, but this should be a warning to the Party Leadership
First off, Harry has to go, Nancy can stay. Then for the next two years we need to treat Republicans like they have the plague - and tromp over top of them every time they try to so much as slow down important legislation, and not wait until they've brought it all to a grinding halt.

11. I think we're stuck with Reid
. . . if he survives this challenge. It just wouldn't sit well with the party to kick him to the curb the moment we've preserved him in office. Maybe he'll read the tea leaves and step aside.

13. Been saying it for a weeks
If there is anyone on this site who still thinks we are completely screwed you need to wake up. Dozens upon dozens of races have tightened across the country and some incumbents who were thought to be at risk are now showing commanding leads. The dem surge is real and its up to us to keep it going. Seriously people, we have the momentum on our side.

18. I stumbled on something that reminded me...
...that the media obsession with polls doesn't look so clever in the light of history. Check out this one:

Rasmussen: Women shifting to McCain

19. That's when they were trying to set the stage for McCain stealing it via computer
in the wee hours. But the computer thieves were caught just a day or two before the election and didn't dare do their thing like they did in Ohio in 04--running all the state results thru a private server farm owned by Repugs. McCain was running around bragging how he would win it in the end. Rove had been writing articles about how McCain was going to win, then about-faced the day before the election--probably because it he would not be able to steal it. This is probably linked to the death by small plane of his main programmer (suicide or assassination?). Wish I had the links for this better organized.

Love him to death but don't think his MO works for smaller races with infrequent polling.

Trying to keep it quiet.

Responsible reporting just doesn't do it for them anymore.
