The "Big Picture" doesn't matter to those
whose "Little Pictures" are being destroyed by those they entrusted to help.
Just about everything I hold near and dear has been marginalized by folks that I voted for and helped to elect.
The ONLY thing that will drive me to vote on November 2 is the fact that I am literally TERRIFIED of the batshit crazies that are on the ballot alongside the Democrats.
The Democrats make me angry. I am pissed that they could have done so much more than they have, but it is what it is.
These re-teabaggers scare me--and if they win, there will have to be another option--I just don't know what it is at this point.
Once again, my vote will not be used to vote for something I want--only as a deterrent to what I DON'T want.
In my adult life, I want to just ONCE vote for something that isn't the lesser evil.:(

2. I agree
But I am not sure how that will ever happen..
The one side wants to go farther and farther Right...
And we have problems getting a unified message...
maybe, if we can ever get over the hump and get some fresh ground...
Instead of always repairing the mess left to us...
Then and only then can we work on our agenda...

3. So, in the presidential election you voted just for the lesser evil?
It's always been this way. Since I've been voting - I'm 58 - I have been enthused by one presidential candidate - and that is Obama - the rest of the time I've been voting for the lesser evil for almost 37 (??) years.

8. No kidding. Where is written that basic civics has to generate tingles.
I can't remember a single congressional or senate candidate that I've ever voted for that really flipped my skirt. They always tend to be moderate and non-exciting. Non the less I've volunteered and voted for them reliably. Why? At the very least I know that the candidate and party that I'm supporting is more on my side.

4. I understand why you would be upset but
you weren't the only person that voted for Obama and the Democrats. The Democratic Party is a very wide ranging organization comprising a large diversity of groups. There is a very big picture that is much more than any one person or group.

6. The "big picture" is that the Republican Party was responsible for the shit that we're in today.
Edited on Sun Oct-17-10 03:32 PM by Liberal_Stalwart71
They blocked nearly every piece of legislation that the House passed.

The "bigger picture" is that they will have even more power to do more damage.

I can't understand why that's so hard for people to understand.

We have to get rid of the Blue Dog Democrats; or, at least, put more progressives in the halls of Congress before any real progress occurs.

The only way to do that is to work hard at the grassroots level to put better Democrats in office.

For example, if more people came out to support Tarryl Clark over Michele Bachmann, we wouldn't be in this mess. She is closing in on Bachmann but desperately needs our help.

I know that people are angry right now, but the work didn't stop two years ago. We're just getting started!!

9. Lesser evils
In my adult life, I want to just ONCE vote for something that isn't the lesser evil.

Who, in human history, has ever been able to do that?

12. I got to do that once.
I voted for Dennis Kucinich in my '04 primary. The best vote I've ever cast.

10. look at it this way...
it's 2010. It's the future we all were expecting. The world is in trouble (economy is on $200 trillion 'exposure'-that's 'trillion' ie '1000 billion!' Iow, for mr pig to rob the bank and get away, he not only set fire to the bank, but set fire to entire town!) Vast numbers of us are going to die within next 50 years, and the chaos (most people run out of food/water in few days!) will be worldwide. All the bridges have been burned!
Therefore, the only way is to go ahead. The election of Obama, though it was fake, like reagan was a fake 'conservative' and the '08 election simply bought time for the bush criminals to fade from popular memory, still represents the mass longing for a fix! We are like junkies, and need some GOOD DOPE, not the fake crap mr pig has been pushing on us since 1796- when the Revolution started. Voting today might seem vain, but vote anyway, for the left/liberal progressive candidate, and keep on fighting! Humanity is leftwing liberal. PERIOD! And humanity has ALWAYS been under thumb of rightwing... 'privilege for the few' has always gone before 'needs of the many'! George Orwell once saw a child leading a gigantic water buffalo, and he said he realized this truth: humanity is like a water buffalo, and the rightwing pig controls us, not by force but simply by using our strength to police us, and exploit us, by confusing/confounding us. That's why newsmedia/entertainment is/always was, so fricking reactionary. If the water buffalo acted on the knowlege that it can ignore the little boy, ie mr pig, anytime it wants- and we do know that! - we can literally do anything we want, but we gotta get rid of mr pig, or at least put him in jail for a couple decades, lol.
Obviously, the problem is getting the population to act in its interest, and not against its interest.
Consider that your job. Our job. Chop chop
